OK, I talked to my Uncle and if all goes well I will get to go see him on the 12th! I am excited, but nervous. None of us have been able to see him since March. This will be my first visit to a state prison. I am nervous about what to wear, when to get there.. I don't even know where to begin. Any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appriciated!

Drena - mainly just don't wear white, don't wear anything form-fitting or that shows a lot of skin, don't wear open toed shoes and don't wear any jewelry except a wedding band - at Easterling anyway. Wear underwear and if you wear a skirt or dress you have to wear a slip. I forgot what time I got there but Carrie or Care can tell you that, you have to line up in your car in the driveway and they send a few cars in at a time... take in nothing but your car keys, ID and your quarters ($30 but we managed to get in $55, they really don't seem to care)... and that is pretty much all you need to know.

The visitation sticky here in the forum will help as well:

Easterling's one of the few I know of that are so strict on the jewelry thing and not all of them ban open-toed shoes, but the not wearing white is ADOC-wide.

oh lysbeth left out one crucial part, she forgot to mention the other ADOC-wide rule and that is when you get to the part where you give your ID to the gaurds you have to stick out your tongue and put your fingers in your ears like you did when you were a kid......its like a right of passage! its a must and please do report back to us once you do this. They loooooooooooooove it when family members do this.

They dont call me THE brat round here for nuffin'

Drean , He will be given a list of the rules to send home.It will tell you what to wear & what not to wear. How much money ,visiting time & days.Unless he puts you down as a lady friend you can't get in.They don't allow neices to visit.Or that's the way it has been at Kilby,Limestone & Elmore.

another question too.. if one of my aunts want to visit also, do we all need to go together? I was wondering about this.. didn't know if it made a difference or not. He did list me as a female friend.. which has caused a little riff with an aunt, she thought it was wrong and wanted her daughter on there... but I am the one who went to court with him every time for the last three years, and am sending him money... which is another question I had.. How much is enough? Ten? Twenty? I don't know what they need in a week!

Drean, He's going to Kilby right? He will put names on the visiting list. They will be the only ones that get in.It's parents, sibling's , grandparents & his kids of course. The limit was 6 but I was told they've changed it to 4.His children will not be counted under the limit rule. You all can go together.

I know Drena' enough to know that she probably wouldn't correct people on the spelling of her name or the pronunciation, lol. But it's such an awesome name so I will do it FOR her. (smile, Drena' !!) It sounds like "Renee" but with a D in front. And the name is as beautiful and kind and gentle as the person who owns it.

smooch smooch Drena' :-)

Thanks Care.. you are right, I wouldn't say anything! I'm so used to people getting my name wrong, its just second nature!

I talked to larry tonite and he still hasn't heard anything about his list, so please keep your fingers crossed for me! Is there usually any problems with getting approved? Now I am almost scared I won't be, and its going to make it so hard.. like losing my family all over again!
