Hello all,
It just occurred to me that it makes more sense for me to post here than a federal forum.
My sister's a federal inmate, doing six months at Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC) in Elk Grove. She's a federal contractee there, doing time with only about 25 other federal prisoners--not sure why she was selected for such an "honor." Since it's a county facility, she's subject to their rules--like one hour per week visitation. Makes me so mad, 'cause other federal inmates have way better visiting time--it's just impractical to fly out there for one hour from NYC! So much for helping inmates stay in touch with community, y'know?
Anyone having info on this place, or federal contracting of prisoners in general, or RCCC in particular, I'd appreciate info. Thanks, and bless you all.

Welcome!! Maybe you can write the warden and see if they'll let you have a special visit because of traveling so far? I've heard it sometimes happens at the state prisons...

I beleive in state prison here in Ca if you have traveled over 250 miles it makes a difference in your visit. It can't be cut short due to over crowding on visiting day. can't hurt to ask and good luck to you both.

That's true Missouri Rose, however, RCCC is NOT a prison. It is more like a branch of the county jails. It is used for short timers who have to do county time when they are overcrowded, for transferring inmates to state facilities, etc. It is kind of a middleman place. My husband was transferred from Sac County jail to RCCC. He was there for 1 week before they transferred him to DVI and then to Mule Creek. It also goes by county rules. No packages, and one hour visiting. Most visiting is behind glass. I guess it depends on where you are housed and how long you have there, also your security level. My husband was minimum, but being transferred, so only phone visits once a week. Others have told me they have contact visits in a picnic area. So your best bet is to look it up online and then call with any questions you have.
By the way, welcome to PTO, we are happy to have you here.
Thank you all for your welcoming words. And Sherrie, you're right--RCCC isn't state. Wish I understood why she was sent there if she's federal. If she has to be in an overcrowded situation anyway, why didn't they just put her in a BOP pen?

I don't know. Have you tried calling her counselor at RCCC? You might be able to get some answers from him/her. Call the jail, ask for inmate records. Then tell them you want to know who your sisters counselor is. You will need her inmate number to get any info. It might be faster than waiting for your sister to write you, unless you are getting phone calls from her.
Good luck!

HI CBee,
Let me know if there's anything I can do for you. I live and work real close to RCCC. Don't know if I can be any help. My man was at RCCC before getting sent to Reception Center in Tracy (DVI). The visiting was hard because it's only once a week and for only an hour. Anyways...please if I can help any way I will try my best.
