This is an email to the Tyler TIFA chairperson from Eric Johnston, the man that is in charge of commisary at TDCJ. I thought ya'll might like to see what he had to say. It is refreshing to see someone working for TDCJ that actually cares and takes complaints seriously.

"Thanks for the opportunity to speak at your chapter's meeting last night. I have attached the price list for you to pass along to members. I have some of our auditors at units mentioned last night checking on some concerns. One auditor called me a short time ago to let me know that he was pulling order slips from the day before the store closed to do their monthly inventory. He was finding items marked out as being out of stock, and they had case quantities on hand the next day at inventory. (The employees did not want to break open a full case the day before inventory and have to count individual items the next day). Confronted with this information, the manager was instructed to always have any inventory items in stock available for sale. Another auditor is on his way to the Choice Moore unit where there was a problem with the commissary not posting items on their "out board" in a timely manner.

I did have a problem last night. I somehow left without speaking to one of your members that had a Western Union problem. I told her I would check into her particular situation, and I forgot to get her family member's name and number. She was sitting up front to my right and had short salt-and-pepper hair - I didn't catch her name. Her concern was that the money was not available for several days on a Western Union deposit. I called the supervisor at Trust Fund and asked about any problems we may have had. She said that any Western Union transaction made before 1:00 pm will be deposited the next day. We download the file from them at 1:00 and get the money the next morning. It is then deposited into the inmates' accounts. If someone does a Western Union deposit after 1:00 pm, it will not be downloaded until the next day (at 1:00 pm) and deposited the following day. So, it is possible for an "overnight" deposit to take up to three days (sounds like a typical government "speedy" process!)." He also said:

" I just received a call from the warehouse manager that the TENNIS SHOES arrived today! It will take a few weeks to filter out to the units, but they have finally arrived at our main warehouse."
