Hello to everyone...

My name is Greg. I served 2 sentences at Oxford FPC totalling almost 26 months. Both were for bank fraud, and stemmed from the same incident, not different crimes. I was prosecuted by one bank in 1995 and another in 2001. I owned a finance company and "embellished" credit applications to enable people to get loans they would not have normally gotten. I did 12 months in '96-'97 and 18 in '02-'03. I went to Oxford both times, as I live in southeastern Wisconsin.

I've been active in prison related issues since my release in April of '03, having been the moderator of the Federal Prison forum at Lost Vault.com, and answering various questions and concerns on a few other sites as well.

I'll be happy to help in any way I can and to answer anything that anyone sends my way. I have a lot of experience with the camp and the process for self surrendering, being transported and the general BS that goes on there.

I'm looking forward to being a part of your community here...

Hi Dan...

I just posted a response in your intro thread - lol. No, it's the band, not the team - sorry. I get asked that a lot :) .

Welcome Greg.
I'm an Eagles fan, too. My boyfriend is at a camp in El Reno, OK on conspiracy charges (tax evasion) with 9 months to go before halfway house. We have a friend at Oxford (a guy he met at El Reno who got transferred). What is that camp like? The one at El Reno isn't bad as prison camps go, I guess. At least, better than the one at Nellis where he was transferred from. Appreciate your involvement in prison issues. We plan to be actively involved when he's released in trying to get changes made and people aware of what's really going on. I didn't have a clue how bad it was until he got into this situation. What an eye-opener! How have things been for you as an ex-con? Do you experience a lot of discrimination, etc.?

Thanks again to all of you for the welcome...wow, what a nice bunch! And it's GREAT to see so many Eagles Fans!!

Jeanene, the camp at Oxford is ok. It's the smallest one in the system, with anywhere from 155 to 210 inmates. It's a "satellite" camp, it sits next to the FCI. The countryside is beautiful(except for the big ugly prison). The facilities were ok, there was a lot to do as far as recreation goes. There's a nice library and visiting is good.

Thanks for the info. I've written several letters to our friend there but haven't heard back from him. Hope he's ok. Again, glad to have you in the PTO family.

Welcome Greg! I'm from Southeast WI too! My husband is currently at the Camp in Marion. We have been desperately trying to get him to Oxord. The region always tells me that they MUST keep the pop down because of sewage treatment problems. When I called Oxford, the receptionist knew nothing at all of this problem! The parole office here told me they do see furloughs coming out of the camp? True? I would just love to learn if the camp does indeed receive tranfers. Thank you for being with us!

Hi there Point of Light...

Yes, the camp at Oxford does indeed have restrictions due to sewage troubles. They are in the process of fixing it, but it was just ready to be started when I left in April of '03, and they thought it would take a few years to complete. They accept incoming transfers, but it all depends on the population numbers. And yes, they do allow furloughs from there. It was a long, tough fight, but they are granting them now. You start with 8 hours, then if all goes well, 90 days later you can get 24, then 90 later you can get 48, then 90 later you can get 72. You must be within 24 months of the door to qualify. Hope this helps...

Greg,

Welcome to PTO from another Eagles Fan (especially Don Henley). By any chance was Joe Scibana the new warden at Oxford?

Vicki...

Hi and thanks for the welcome. Yes, he was. He came about 2 months before I left (4/29/03). He seemed like an OK guy, he came up to the camp a few times per week and actually talked to us. I never saw the previous warden in 24 months.

Softie...thanks for the welcome! It's great to be here.

Greg,

The reason I asked is because Scibana was the warden at FPC, Alderson, WV when I was there 01-03. He is a very OK guy, very open to inmates and their problems and concerns. His management style is MBWA (managing by walking around, and walk around he did!). He and various members of his staff were in the Central Dining Room at lunch M-F and you could approach them and talk to them about any issue. I knew he was leaving for Wisconsin and the name Scibana isn't a common one, so I was curious. :)

Vicki...I knew he came from a women's FPC, just didn't know which one. He was in our lunchroom twice a week, and was very approachable. He was always there on Thursday (hamburger day - lol), and would actually eat with us. When he came, the one counselor that was very anti-inmate got extremely nervous. He had several of the shots he wrote torn up AFTER they went to the lieutenant...it was great.

Greg.....that's Warden Sciban all right. A CO once tried to lockdown the TV rooms indefinitely for an entire housing unit because one person didn't pass "cube" inspection, and he scotch taped the notices on the doors of the TV rooms. Some people approached Scibana about it in CDR at lunch, and I just happened to follow him into our unit that afternoon. I watched while he personally tore down the notices off the doors. He was one who did not believe in "mass" punishment. He was always willing to listen to what you had to say, and if he felt it was credible, he did something about it. He didn't always say yes, but he always listened. From what I hear, he is very much missed at Alderson. :)

Thank you Greg, you information about Oxford helps very much. Now if only I could find the "majic carpet" to get us there! Desperado is one of my all time favs!
