I can't find my son. I am desparate. I tried the site mentioned (Vinelink) and I got him at county level but he was moved from there on the 6th of May and trans to Chino and Chino said that he was in route to Wasco and Wasco said he never arrived. The whole family is beside thereself with worry. Do they ever just lose the prisoners? This is really getting scary.

How long has he been at Wasco? They can take up to a week after moving someone before they will tell you -- it's supposed to be for security reasons... have you tried the inmate locater number?

916-445-6713

(But they also will not update for at least a few days or a week after he transfers.)

I have never heard of them just losing an inmate BUT there are many times that they mistakenly have the inmates last name as their first name and their first name as their last which will screw everything up when you are looking for your loved one. And as the other posts said it does take a minute to get the information into the California database. One week should be plenty of time & if you still cannot locate then contact the California Department of Corrections @ (916) 445-7682 and file your issue with them. They should respond to you within 24 hours if not then bother them again & just keep trying. Don't give up!
Information Regarding the inmate locator: To locate an inmate within the California Department of Corrections, please call (916) 445-6713, which is available 24 hours a day. You must have either the inmate's CDC number, or the inmate's full name and date of birth to receive information. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will provide an inmate's location, mailing addresses and relevant phone numbers. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will not provide any future release date information. Please note that for new or transferring inmates it can take up to seven business days to update location information.

When he is in one spot chances are he'll be able to borrow and envelope and write you. I think I would call the CA DOC right away though, as it sounds like it has been over a week and you haven't known where he is.

Hi....
After reading your post I had to reply..... simply because its not that they have LOST HIM, they may not have him in their computer system yet... this happened to me once before...... he was in transit when I called the first time and they will not tell you they are in transit due to security reasons.... then I called the prison where he was SUPPOSED TO BE GOING like 5 hours later and they said they didnt have him..... well little to my disappointment HE WAS THERE, but I had been told otherwise.... simply because it takes at least a DAY in some cases for THEIR PUTER SYSTEM TO UPGRADE.... since they dont know each inmate on a personal level and by face they just tell the individual HE"S NOT HERE>... so my suggestion would be to contact them back and ask once again..... chances are their system is updated NOW!!!! Best of luck to you..... and trust they DONT LOSE THEM they KNOW EACH AND EVERY STEP AND WHERE THEY ARE 24-7......

Have you called the Inmate locater # for Calif? Here is the phone # 1 (916) 445-6713 Here is the # for Wasco also try Inmate records # (661) 758-8400 Also talk to the County Jail they have to have a record of who he was released to and what facility transported him try tracking him that way
