View Full Version : Can someone shed some light...what does this mean?
Hey everybody!!! I got a letter from Kevin today and well..he has me very confused on something (well...he's confused too!! :hmm: ). I'm gonna post a little bit of his letter and..if you can...could you please help me (us) out and shed some light on what this is...or mean? Thanks I really appreciate it!
" Well, baby, as you can see I'm STILL here at Limestone!! They've taken me out of the kitchen and now have me on a custody squad. I don't know what it is but this older guy was telling me that depending what squad I'm on...if it's one...I'm going out into the free world, probably Huntsville A&M, to cut grass. I don't think I'm on that squad though. My homeboy told me that he seen my name on this list, along with his, and that he think it was squad two. Someone said that squad two goes out and picks tomatoes :p . The older guy said the only reason why they probably put me on there is to work my custody until a bed comes open at Hamilton. I may end up having to stay on this squad for 3 weeks...I'm so ready to be close to you so we can finally see each other again. I'm so depressed, baby. I mean...I was supposed to have went to work release 2 weeks ago..and it is depressing me...I guess I just need to see you. But...what is this custody squad thing...I never heard of it before, baby! Do you think some of your friends on PTO could help???"
So...if any of you know anything about this "custody squad" thing...could you fill us in please?? He also wanted me to tell my friends on PTO that he is so grateful I have ya'll to help me stay strong and get through this separation. :grouphug:
Sorry this is so long...we are just sooo confused and don't know what to think about all of this!! (Again, though, it IS Alabama!!)

ragland 05-18-2004, 07:04 PM ive allways understood custody to mean you work in the free world.....and then back to prison you go....work release of custody of course are different things
MISS N U 05-18-2004, 10:40 PM hey girl i am told theres 2 custodys which is in meaning you get a job in the prison or out you get a job outside then go back to prison. sounds like he is on custody out working and coming back afterwards till he gets a bed at wr. good luck
ragland 05-18-2004, 10:49 PM unless of course they have a garden on the grounds, then it would be working at the prison...my uncle did that they grew TONS of squash
ragland 05-18-2004, 10:50 PM the only thing that concerns me about this particular case is that before joe came up for parole he said that he was coming up for review and that if he got selected for custody that he wouldnt be getting paroled....if thats true then it sounds to me like that hes not going to WR....but dont take my word for it call hamiliton and see how the space available is or better yet go by there and ask
Lord knows I don't wanna call Hamilton...and I REALLY don't wanna go by there! I don't like those people and well...to be honest...they don't really like me either (long story). I am pretty sure he's going to WR though..I mean, he signed the papers and they said "hamilton" on them. They SAY they are waiting on a bed to come open but...a guy that is in Hamilton told me the other day that they were actually putting beds away cause so many people had left. I don't understand. I know one thing though...if they have told him that he was goin' to Hamilton WR...and they don't let him go...I will be one ticked off woman...and I know it'll crush Kevin. He is looking forward to only being 15 minutes away from me (and I am too). Hmmm...Kevin said that older guy (that he mentioned above) told him that with him working his custody until he goes to WR...would probably help him get a parole hearing quicker!!! Personally...I just totally give up on understanding (or believing) ANYTHING having to do with the Alabama DOC!!! :blah: Well...if he has to be at Limestone for 3 more weeks or longer...I hope and pray the captain does what he SAID he would do...and let me come visit. I should hear something about THAT either tomorrow, Thursday, or Friday. But Lord knows I'm NOT gettin' my hopes up on that one either.

E1950 05-19-2004, 08:05 AM Selena, this means he either got min.in custody or min. out custody. min.in custody means he is at a lower custody level but can't work on the prison grounds, min out custody means he also got a lower custody level, but can work out side on the prison grounds. IE: tomato squad, farm shed, etc... this sounds like what he got. their is a bigger trust level to min. out custody. I'm sure that recieving a lower custody level will be helpful at his parole hearing but it won't make him come up any sooner, Lewis had min. out custody for 5 years before he came up. it just gives the inmates a better job, or in some cases a chance to be outside for most of the day.
I hope this helps sweetie, it is a positive thing for Kevin.
((((hugs))))
sue
Okay...thanks, Sue!! (you always seem to pop up when I need ya! :) ). So...does that mean they aren't gonna send him to Hamilton??? Or is he just gonna have to be on that UNTIL they send him to Hamilton??? That is what I'm really worried about...ya know? Well...thanks everybody. I wrote Kevin last night and sent him this thread (except for Sue's cause I didn't have it...I'll send it to him tonight...) so, we'll see how everything works out, I guess!!
huggs,
Selena (& Kevin)
E1950 05-19-2004, 04:09 PM sweetie, it won't affect Kevin's going to Hamilton.
Okay...good!! That was really scaring me!!! I'm hoping to go see him this Sunday (cause of the captain promising him....:( )...but, if I have to wait until he goes to Hamilton...I will...I've waited almost a year to see him...it won't kill me to wait...but Lord knows I really don't want to!!!! :(
