People start lining up on the road outside the evening before. Sometimes they leave their cars to hold their spots and stay in hotels, sometimes they sleep in their cars (like me!). To get in at a reasonable time, I try to arrive in line at about 5:30 a.m. Otherwise you end up standing in line waiting to be checked in for a really long time! I would rather nap in my car listening to the stereo then stand in the office for an hour or more!! They start letting cars in at 8:15 aND OPEN THE DOORS AT 8:30a.m. The type of visit depends on him. You should call first because the phone visits are limited. There are only 3 windows per yard. Usually window visits are allowed to visit the whole visiting time, but if it's over crowded...? The CO's are pretty good, only once in awhile do we have any problems. If you need any more info or have any questions, feel free to PM me. I've been going there to see my hubby for about 19 months.

Wow I Never Thought It Would Be That Crowded. Wear My Husband Was At In Delano Their Was Never A Line, But It Was A Smaller Prison. So I Guess I Will Have To Leave The Night Before And Get A Room Out Their. Im Thinking That It Will Be About A Three Hour Drive. I Was Also Thinking Of Taking My Kids But I Dont Know Any More. How Long Is Your Drive? Thank You For The Info:)

I drive from Tucson, Arizona, which is about a 5 hour drive. I leave at midnight-1:00a.m. and get there and park and take a nap. The cheapest hotels are in El Centro and I stay at one that is only $25 a night, but isn't anything fancy! Then I get a 4 a.m. wakeup call on Sat so I can drive out by 5:30am. When it's cool I don't get a hotel room I just sleep in my car. I don't tell my husband that though, he wouldn't want me to visit then! But the way gas prices are...money only goes so far! I take my son out once in awhile. He's 15 though. Oh... El Centro is about a 15-20 minute drive from the prison in Calipatria. It's very warm there right now!

My honey is in calipatria, I'm still waiting to get approved, it's been almost 4 months, but because i've been in prison myself they say the warden has to approve it. well hopfully not long. when I do get approved I would like to hook up with someone else who is going out that way I don't really want to drive that distance by myself. If intrested please pm me. Also about the visiting thing I have been approved to see my brother in Corcran and there are never that many people where we had to go the night before.thanks
