New Zealand solves Kornies mystery
Christchurch, , May. 14 (UPI) --
The New Zealand Prison Service found Friday why Canterbury jails were going through Kornies cereal like never before.
Officials investigating the Kornies mystery found the wheat flakes had been reduced in size to to fit into a serving cup. Inmates were inadvertently getting a super-sized portion, the Dominion Post reported Friday.
To fix the problem, prison officials shrunk the cup.
"Staff need to ensure that the inmate servery staff comply with the above in the issuing of these cereals," Christchurch Prison catering manager Marty Rickard said.
Though inmates might read the shrinking cup as a cutback, the Corrections Department said they were still getting the right rations.
The cereal policy did not impress First MP Ron Mark. He said the department should be focusing on issues such as inappropriate officer-inmate relationships.
