Hi I am new here...I am a g/f of an inmate and I have been trying to find a support group for family and friend of inmates in Ontario, Canada. Can anyone help me? I had no luck finding any so I started on of my own on msn communities. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am not currently in Canada, but we lived in Toronto for 9 months about 3 years ago. I know that there are a few other members here from Canada. Try posting in the Canada forum. The only facility I am familiar with in Canada is Toronto East Detention Center. I'm sure that those who live up there have a ton of info. Welcome to PTO!

Hey - Welcome to PTO! Good to have you here.

You will find some Canadians here! Some of us have loved ones in Canadian prisons and some in American prisons. In any event, as Bella suggested, there is the Canadian Forum that is just begging for new members to join!

PTO is an amazing support community and there is a lot of knowledge and compassion to be shared no matter where you come from. Bring more to the Canadian Forum and lets build a strong community here and benefit from the support that is already here.

Personally my Partner is in a Missouri prison but I try to support Canada too!

Welcome and I hope you can find some good resources here, or at least pointed in the right direction. Mine is in an American prison also but I'm a bit familiar with the Ontario Correction system. If I can ever help let me know.

I do live in canada (Vancouver BC) but my husband is incarcerated in the States, So I really can't help you out SORRY!

I'm near Toronto. Where are you? I am also the Moderator of the Canada forum, but most of the time, us Canadians just intermingle in all the other Forums with these "damned Yanks!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I have been tardy in my welcoming you but I just got a new computer and will be online more often now. My man is locked up in Alberta, so I don't know too much about Ontario, but I am sure we have felt alot of the same things .
Menolly seems to be the in-house expert on all things Ontario so hopefully she can help you out!!

Menolly, i need to know how to get in touch with V&C so I can visit!@ I sent my form in over 2months ago and have not haeard anyhting yet????I have a number but its directly to his PO and she wont call me back at all!HELP!

Has HE (your guy) put you on HIS visitor's list yet? Some of the guys, especially if they are new to that prison, don't realize they have to do this. If you're SURE he has done so, I'd simply show up, and see what happens.

I've NEVER had a moment of trouble, once the inmate has me on their list!

Have you ever been to K.P. before? Ever had, or caused, any trouble there? Do you have a criminal record yourself, that would make then hesitate to grant you visit status?

Also, call the John Howard Society in Kingston. They are sometimes very helpful at helping with paperwork and bureaucracy, albeit, more for the inmate's than for their family. BUT, they have helped me in the past!

I unfortunately don't know the new warden, but I have in the past found Monty Bourke (the previous warden) quite amenable to solving problems for the boys, at times. (It kinda depended on which inmate it was, sometimes.)

Anyway, the new warden's name is DONNA MORRIN.

Thanks, I finally got the number to kingston penn and I called V&C and they have recieved my application but they said there is a back log on visiting forms and they would put a rush on it and to call back next weeeek to check again! I am so damn frustrated! I know he has to put me on his list and i had to fill out a form with 2 recenet ophotos blah blah blah ! Ddid it all! I have no record , I am a innocent little angel! yeah irght but nothing they would be concerned with! I live 6 hours away so i have tp plan this visit well in advance! I am telling you KP just doesnt like me for some reason ! It only took over amonth to get my phone number approved and on his PIN card! I hate KP!! TThanks for all your advice though!
