Hi all! I got a call from my uncle today and they told him he will be going to Easterling. It's good cause he's going to be close to home.. only about an hour or so away, but I don't know what to make of him being there, I've heard so many things about that place. Does anyone know about the phone company they use? If it's Tnetix will I have to call them and let them know he is somewhere else, or will my account be accessable there too? any heads up anyone could give me would be wonderful! What do I need to do about visits and such, or will he have to do all that? Thanks guys!

T-Netix services the entire Alabama DOC. You won't need to do anything.

He will have to turn in a new visitation, funds and phone list to Easterling once he gets there. Some of the phones at Easterling don't require the phone list to be entered first (just happened to learn that) so he may be able to call you beforehand, but otherwise, he should be able to call you once his phone list is processed. And you'll be able to visit once his visitation list is processed and approved.

As for the place itself, it just sucks because of the warden and all her dumb rules and regulations that no other prison in the ADOC has. As far as the other inmates there, it's pretty okay... nobody there wants to be there so I think they are all somewhat bonded in their misery (which is due to the warden and all her dumb rules and regulations) and people seem to mostly get along OK. If it weren't for all the crazy rules it wouldn't be any worse than any other ADOC facility and probably better than some. If your uncle's a smoker, he's bad out of luck (it's 100% smoke free and 6 months in the hole if you get caught with a match or cigarette) - if he's not a smoker, he'll probably like it OK there. And visitation is pretty laid back and okay, wasn't bad at all really.

Hope that helps some...
