Ok my husband has a mandatory out date since VA does not have parole anymore. I am wondering if anyone knows when he is out he has 5 years probation to fulfill so my question is this WHen he is let go does he have to stay in VA til they transfer his probation to Missouri where we are going to live or does he have to request this before his release or how to go about doing all of this??????

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated we have a few years left but im trying to cover all my bases now!

Usually before they leave prison (that's the way it is here) they have to list where they are going to live and then it goes through interstate compact from one state to another. That's not usually a problem, but it's a paperwork thing - and that can be awfully slow. When it comes time, find out who the interstate compact administrator is for the state he's in and the state he wants to go to and stay in contact with them. Also whomever will be his parole/probation officer in the new state (where you live now) can also help speed things along (if they chose to). Hope this helps!

Teresa, thanks for asking your question. My husband is coming up for his 8th parol hearing in N.Y. after serving 30 years of a 25 - life sentence. I live in N.C. where he wants to be paroled to. Monica's response was helpful. If anyone else out there has ANY information, ideas, suggestions that you think would be helpful to me I welcome it. I so-o-o-o-o glad I have you guys.
