I live in Syracuse and Wende is near Buffalo. If anyone has loved ones there that they visit please PM me if you live near Syracuse. I'm also looking for a possible ride for when he is transferred. Thanks!!!!!!!

My husband is in the RMU ( Regional Medical Unit ) at Wende. He has served his entire time ( since Jan 2003 ) at the RMU due to his horrendous medical problems. I don't want to alarm you, but here's the poop. I myself testified at the hearings in Albany re: Prison Health System. I traveled to Albany in April to personally meet with Assemblyman Aubry along with one of our attorneys AND a nurse who has come forward with signed affidavits of the abuses that are being perpitrated on the inmates in this facility. The Superintendent is either a moron or a conspirator in the terrible abuses that are a daily occurance in this facility. I have filed a formal complaint with the State Medical Licensing Board concerning the negligence, abuse, and medical malpractice that is standard here. I was on WBAI 99.5 FM last Saturday with Eddie Ellis May 8th along with both of our attorneys and I'm now in the process of going as public as I can with all the inside information I've gathered from a NUMBER of staff who have approached me, knowing that I was willing to run with it. Although SOME of the CO's have been very pleasant, there is a GOON squad that seems to be sanctioned and the I.G.'s office HAS BEEN notified about. Also have upwards of 25 other complaints regarding medical negligence - some of the stories are WORSE than what the media is writing about the military in IRAQ. PS - MY ATTORNEYS HAVE TAKEN OUR CASE PRO BONO - And I'm ALSO involved with a private investigative team - seems that the CO's were padding their overtime by taking sick inmates out to outside facilities for thwir appts. and DELIBERATELY delaying their return to pad their overtime. The VIDEOS I got are mind boggling - inmates throwing their guts out in the back of the vans after radiation or chemotherapy while the CO's are sitting for HOURS in McDonald's or Wendy's or some parking lot in an effort to add hours to their pay !!!!!! I belong to other web sites and it disgusts me that NO ONE is willing to file complaints - one inmate was beaten unrecognizable by 5 + CO's beacuse he beat a ticket !!!!! A ticket witnessed by a staff member who testified for him !!
This place is totally out of control, run by a superintendent who looks the other way !!! The staff ( nurses, aides, etc ) are told to look the other way or lie, they falsify medical records, they ignore serious health problems, ( my husbands roommate complained of chest pains for 2 solid weeks and until he and my husband finally made a HUGE stink, they FINALLY took him to the hospital where they determined the guy took MULTIPLE heart attacks !! And the kicker is that before they called an ambulance, they had to do an EKG on him and when they rolled the machine into the room, they had to READ THE MANUAL before they could run the damn thing. My attorneys have been collecting mail from other inmates in the facility which we will presenting to the media !!!! Again - I've become HUGELY active in trying to get my husband out - DOC's CANNOT take care of these inmates - they're cruel and many are being tortured - I have pleaded with other inmate families to come forward - NOW IS THE TIME - with all the abuse by the military in IRAQ - and 2 of those soldiers are CO's - IT'S AN ELECTION YEAR - any politician that doesn't sit up, take notice and do something - VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE !!!Worse abuses are occuring right in our own backyard and now's the time to expose it all.

Wende is a max security prison, there is a visitors lounge and check in on weekends, bathrooms are there for freshening up before the visit, before you go to the main gate. Visits are from 9am to 3pm every day, visits Monday thru Thursday are up to 7 people, and Friday thru Sunday, max visitors are 3. There are no lockers available for personal belongings any day of the week. The COs try to be helpful. 1 photo ID is needed, no off the shoulder blouses, or shorts or short skirts. There are vending machines, hot food vending, prices ranging from .45 to $3.50, bring lots of single $. The phone number there is 716-937-4000 and ask for the guidance department, they will be able to tell you more on packages and other stuff.

My husband has been there for the past 7 years. It has been a good experience for us both. There are 2 trailers there. The CO's have been fine with us.
Ksoccio1--You must have missed the lockers; but there are lockers for your belongings. They are outisde of visitor house for weekend visit processing. During the week when you visit you can go up to the main gate for entrance but you still have to store your stuff in the outdside lockers.
I have found that they are pretty strict on the weight limits for food packages so please be aware of the weights of your packages.

It is roughly every 3 months between trailers.:( They are a bit more frequent during the winter time, if you can get there, because people often cancel due to the weather.
