Does anyone know what kind of charges an inmate could face with a contraband/drug charge while incarcerated?

Here in NC my bf said at the prison he's at if you even get caught with cigs they add 2months to your sentence but idk about drugs. Charges vary from state to state also so maybe you could Google it or look in the prison handbook for inmates online for your state.

be placed in the shu, loose commissary, phone, e......maybe extra time???? or loose good behavior time. loose visitations. not sure, but one thing, they're already incarcerated so they can't do that.

Depends on what facility he's in, your state DOC's policy, what/how much they found, if he has priors in there, etc. etc.

He's already been placed in the hole for a 30 day disciplinary action. He had a disciplinary hearing and was told no charge would be against him, just the hole for 30 days, then a week later he was told he would have one. So I'm not sure what to think.

Geeze!!! That's crazy over a phone!! I'm REALLY worried about what type of time this is going to give. I'm praying for the best. There's SOOO much to the story but of course can't go into detail about it. That really sucks that your friend got 2 more years over a cellphone...

They really don't play, my hubby went to his dho hearing today, 90 more days no phone, 30 days commisary, 2 weeks good time taken, cause he got a shot for getting on the phone when he was already on restrictions....I would think it may be harsh tho

You should've known that I would stay by your side , You should've known your girl was gonna ride or die, And it just don't matter if ya rich or poor, Out or in doing 5 to10, You should've known better

Did he test dirty or got caught with the contraband? If they test dirty it is 120 days, but if he is at 1/2 time he only does 60 days. Getting caught with it is either probably 90 days or 120 days.

Was it over a contraband charge? Will he catch a charge that he will have to go to court over? Sorry you're going through it!

He got caught with it....he worked on the outside so you can imagine what he was having to do..I'm not sure if he got tested tho, he hasn't mentioned that to me and I haven't asked much because I know the phone calls are being recorded and I don't wanna give them any "ideas".

It really depends on the state but it can mean the end of visitation in this state, if the visitor is a suspect in bringing it in. Time in the hole, more time tacked on, loss of commissary. Its not good

Mine got 30 days extra duty in the past. It all depends on the state, officer, inmate and situation.

As others have noted, it really does all depend on the jurisdiction. As an example, in Texas, one can face both administrative sanctions that include the forfeiture of good-time as well as time-earning status but can ALSO face free-world charges. And in this State, free-world prosecutions for in-prison conduct that result in a new sentence see that sentence stacked onto any previous sentences being served.

Possession of contraband in a correctional facility is prosecutable as a third-degree felony here, which carries a sentence of 2-10 years but is also going to automatically have a sentencing enhancement available by virtue of the previous felony conviction, which means it could jump to 2-20 or even 5-99 or life.

Easiest thing is if they would just follow the rules...if they CHOOSE to violate the rules then they CHOSE to accept the consequences no matter what collateral impact it might have on family or friends.

I've heard that in GA it's a Free World Charge too.

No problem. I downloaded it on my android just to look at their rules and punishments. Lol, it was actually interesting and answered a lot of my questions. It was called like inmate rules and regulations. And there was also a family and friends one too. hope you find the answers your looking for!

I found something on the TDOC website but he's in a CCA facility so I'm not sure if it's the same rules for them...it did answer some questions though! We are praying that this doesn't effect to much. I'm so worried but gotta not stress over it. ( I say that but I know I will lol). He's worried too and I can't blame him.

Every state is different. In ga my guys bunkmate just got 30 days in da hole. But it varies cuz it depends if the prison handles it or gets passed on to the state. So it could be less or more. I do know if passed on to the state its much worse. Hope everything works out for you your man.

Thank you!! He was told during his disciplinary hearing he would only get hole time then they turned around a week later and told him he was getting charged. I'm praying for the best tho...he has already went to court over it. It was bound over from sessions court so just afraid now of how it will all work out.

My husband, who works in the laundry area (issues inmates all their clothing) discovered a seam ripped on his shorts. We live in Florida, and the DOC doesn't provide shorts so I had to send him extra $ to buy them so he could have a tiny bit of relief from the heat. He took the shorts to have them sewn. During a shake down the he got a write up for CONTRABAND (because of the repair!) and lost 10 days gain time. Of course, we're probably lucky, had he worn them with the loose seam he probably would have gotten charged with indecent exposure! The more I know, the less I understand.
