Hi,
My name is Jennifer. I will probably be headed to visit the BOP sometime this year along with my husband and my mother. As of yet, we do not know the charges, the points, where we are headed or anything else. It seems to take so long for us to get any information. My husband and I have 3 children so we are very worried about them. We are hoping that we can fall under the boot camp category. Any information would be great. Meanwhile we are still sitting here waiting and waiting to find out about our near future.

Jennifer,
So sorry for the delay! I've been....lost, and did not even see your post!
Anyhow, Welcome to PTO. I'm sorry to hear that not only you are being affected but hubby and mom too! Without even knowing the charges, it will be extremely difficult for anyone to try to figure a range out. But, we are here to help you through! You'll find lots of support, knowledge and friendships here! Glad you have found us! Others will be around too...

I have a dumb question. How can you know that you are headed to prison and not know what the charges are against you?

Sorry for not explaining better. We have received target letters and have been "given" the chance to waive indictment. We just don't know the exact charges yet. Something along the line of wire fraud. I am unsure of the benefits of a plea agreement considering that they are suppose to throw everything at you that they can. Maybe someone can help me with this. Is there a benefit to the plea agreement?

First, welcome to PTO. You will find much needed support here. Also, there is a wealth of information. I am also walking in your shoes and looking at a plea.
Yes, a plea agreement is supposed to offer something better than waiting for an indictment. Usually, it is in the form of lesser charges. For example, one count instead of 5. Do you have an attorney yet? Your attorney should be able to explain the differences between taking a plea, and what you would be up against if you don't.
In order to calculate points you need to know how many counts of what kinds of charges, any criminal history?, and also the $$$ amount. This is a basic starting point. There are many here at PTO who know the federal system well.
Best of luck in the process. From experience, I know it is a bumpy ride. PTO has made this ride mostly bearable for me and I am forever grateful.
