Unfortunately, the only one who can make that decision for him is himself... I don't think there's anything you can say or do to change his desires or his behavior... I wish there were a majic button you could push to change things, but there isn't one... I was married to an addict for 15 years, and I can honestly say that I tried everything, followed advise from anyone and everyone, but he's still actively using... It's heart breaking... I finally had to leave for my own sanity...

When sobriety works, it's because they got sick and tired of being sick and tired... It comes from within them...

I continue to pray for my ex, and I do hope someday that he doesn't need his habits... I wouldn't want to be in his shoes... But I know now that I can't make him want what I want... I still reflect on what should have been, and I cry sometimes, but even through the divorce and all of the promises, he won't walk away from the drugs...

Debi P is so right he has to want to admit he has a problem and get help for it too. There really isn't a whole lot you can do.

Debi P and lea- ann are right. unless he wants help from within himself, there is nothing you can do or say that will stop the madness. an addict is completly out of control of their life. it may help you to go to ala-non (for families of addicts).

Ditto to what everyone has said here. Al anon is a good program there are some groups online too. I just started al anon a few months ago and its works wonders already.

You need to determine if you are enabling him in any way and stop.
