After receiving the letter from my son, while he was Kilby, my heart felt lighter and

so much of my worry had disappeared. He seemed to be doing so well and was

actually lighthearted. Not now....they have moved him to Easterling. He called last

night and I could hear his voice shake. It really broke my heart.

My son has had two convictions of possession of a controlled substance and some

DUIs a few years back. I hate that he used illegal drugs. In spite of his drug use, he

is a very kind, sweet and thoughtful person. He is always quick to laugh, quick to

pitch in and help. He has always made an impression where ever he has been.......

He spent 6 months in a Christian Men's program before he went to Kilby. I really

believe it was helping him turn his life around. So....why Easterling?

I would like my son to stay drug free and learn to make better life choices.

I don't want his spirit crushed and his heart hardened.

Does anyone have anything good to say about Easterling?

They told him to forget about early parole....he wouldn't get it.

They told him to forget about work release....he didn't qualify?

Easterling....The little bit that i do know..I will tell...Kenny was transfered that once..OMG he almost had a duck, he too was very "shaken" by the whole exprience. They also told him to forget about parole, and anything else. The first few days was really hard on him. But we lucked out...Kenny has been in the System for 15 years and hasn't always been a "good" guy, in his younger years he stayed in lots of trouble, running scams, fighting, druging..the whole deal...Well luckly, there were # men at easterling that was known to be "enemies" of Kenny and in kennys jacket there was recorded that he was not to be in the same prison with these 3 men..He went to the classifitcation officer with in and they put him in lockup and for 5 days they told him that they were going to transfer the other 3 and keep him there!! I was freakin' out, but after that 5th day....THEY MOVED HIM TO BIBB..

Its seems like they are really big on the whole "scare tatic" thing there...

I'm sure someone else will have more "informative" info for you soon...

Keeping the faith!!

I live close to there and It is terriable there. Anything in Barbour Co. & Dale Co. sucks. They are the reason why my husband is in jail now. He was charged with something he did not do. And you wounder why I am so hostile. We even had the Fed's involved. They are not helping now. He excaped from work release and they just cought him about 2 weeks ago in a car reck in Tennessee. It makes me sad to be going through this. I feel like the system is set up to make people fail. It has really failed us. How do you prove your not guilty to a judge that did not even look at the evidence? We will never know. Hes name is Smitheart and his other judge is Bowden. I hope they do not get re-elected this next term. My husband has to come back to Barbour Co. to face 3 rd degree escape charges. I think his term emds in Jan. Maybe they will keep him in Capshaw until then.

I don't know anything about Easterling but I will tell you this. He will learn to adapt to his situation and the best thing he can do is get into any programs that he can to keep himself occupied and to try to find a dorm where the inmates are more calm. I know the dorm my son is in at Bibb is a bad dorm. He says they stay high 24/7 and fight all the time. He was telling me he is trying to get moved to another dorm. When this happens he will have to pay someone in coffee to have him moved. Goods there is like money and it costs you every time you need something. That's why I make sure he has money every week so he doesn't have to rely on anyone else.
Just because he is not eligble for work release right now doesn't mean he can't find work inside the prison such as yardwork, work in the kitchen or something to occupy his time. They told my son at Bibb when he asked to be transferred to another prison that he had to stay there a year before they would even think about moving him. Some how I don't believe alot of what they tell them...he is eligible for honor camp in August. I'm like Denise alot of this bull is scare tactics and it's best he keeps to himself until he finds someone he can trust. But drugs are rampant in all the prisons you see more here than on the streets.

I am so sorry to hear that he has landed at Easterling... as you know you and I have talked extensively about that place. Is he actually in on a drug charge now or anything drug-related? Because if so I know they will recommend he go thru the SAP program... and my guy just got moved into the Pre-SAP dorm there today (I just found out) and it seems to be a little better than the other dorms. Quieter, cleaner, probably a lot less hassle. If he is going to have to go thru SAP, have him see if he can get into it ASAP and maybe he'll be able to move in there. I'm going to PM you in a bit too... hang in there, it's tough but all prisons are... and he will adapt to the situation. They always do. **{hug}}

Hey...Thanks for hugs...I need one today. Actually, I have been looking for you on-line. Didn't you just go for a visit? Hope you had a good one!

Yes...my son is in for possession of a controlled substance. (2nd one) But, it took so long to come to court...he has been drug free for a long time. While he was in rehab he pretty much came to terms with his drug use and was doing very well. They had even invited him to come back and be on the staff of counselors when he had completed the program and his legal troubles were over.

I asked him last week about the SAP program and he said there was a waiting list. I hope he can get into it as soon as possible. I haven't talked with him since last week.....I hope he has gotten out of the shock mode. He really is very frightened....I think he has fears of being attacked, beat, forced to do things he doesn't want to....everything you see in a motion picture. I really hope that isn't the case.....He can have a cool, tough, outer skin when it is needed...but inside he sometimes is just a kid.

Talk you soon.
