I have court in about a week and a half and I'm worried I might be sent to prison. I have two prior felonies and some pending misdemeanors. I'm not sure if I'd get sent to prison with a new misdemeanor conviction or if my PO could revoke my probation and send me to prison. I've done time in the county jail and I was able to handle that alright, but I've never been to prison and I'm kinda worried. All the "regulars" and "old timers" that are in county jail say that prison is way better than the county jail. It seems like there are a lot of women with boyfriends and/or sons in Oregon prisons. What do they say it's like? Are you alowed tv's in your cell other than the new flatscreens? Do you have a single cell or is it a double? I'm also worried about my girlfriend if I go in. How do you guys pass the time? It's seems as if it would be hard to handle during the night. Hopefully all goes well and I won't find myself locked up, but you never know. I guess it will be up to the judge. One more question........Does anybody know how a "felon" can get a job? I don't know If I should just say NO on applications that ask about convictions and just hope they don't run a background check. I don't want to work at Jack In The Box either!!!! Thanks for any information.

Mikey,

First of all Welcome to PTO! Glad that you found us during this difficult time! Please check out this link:

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=91

for more information and answers about if you have to serve any time. We also have a forum for employment questions/concerns here:

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=53

We are working on getting more information about employment and hopefully this area will help many of our members who are looking for work!

Not only for you, but this can be a difficut time for the loved ones and friends that you may leave behind. Their support is SO important to you if you have to be incarcerated and maintaining relationships are always a priority. Please refer them to PTO, if you find yourself in the situation of going to prison. They will have questions, concerns and we can help them here also.

Please post an introduction here:

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=38

and you will get many welcomes and support from our members in addition to this post!

Again, Good luck and stay in touch!

Welcome to PTO MikeyZ

You have asked alot of questions!! Let's see if I can answer some of them.

Regarding the flat screen TV's, from what i have read in the link below, they are only available at one Oregon prison.

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59280

Alot of your questions are institution specific. Do they allow TV's, how many to a cell. Have you been to the Oregon DOC web site? Their web site is www.doc.state.or.us (http://www.doc.state.or.us/) There you can read up on your possible new location.

How do I pass the time while my fellah is locked up? Everyone has a different answer!! I go on with my life, support him in everyway, and spend hours and hours on PTO!!

Please, check out the links that PammieK mentioned in her post, and tell your loved ones about PTO. I have done time with my guy before without PTO, and it is so much better with the caring, support and knowledge that is PTO!! We can't make all the questions and frustrations go away...

Keep us posted on what happens. Wishing you the best.

Well, I saw my attorney on Friday and I didn't really find out any new news. My pre-trial conference is a week from Monday so hopefully I'll be able to post a new message or reply to some new ones. If not, I'm gonna tell my girlfriend about this site so she can talk to some "real" people going through the same thing. Wish us luck!!
