Hi welcome to PTO! You have come to a wonderful site for support. If you ask more specific questions you might have a better chance of getting answers.

Wenny,Thanks for the advice, I need all I can get. My niece has just entered the prison system and is currently being processed at Dodge Correctional. I have never had any exposure to prison. I would like to know what processing entails, how long it takes, when will we be able to visit, do the seasoned inmates help the new ones to adjust? If she should be moved, will it be taycheeta, what is it like there? Any information is appreciated.

Hi Ginny, welcome to PTO.I can't tell you much about women in prison but my son is at Dodge right now. That is where everyone goes before they are placed in a different prison. If you would like to visit her she has to place you on her visiting list. She will have to sent you a form which you fill out and send back. They are allowed 4 visiters on their visiting list. She will be able to make one phone call a week between 5 and 8.30pm. I have visited my son about 5 times now and from what I see and what he tells me it's not so bad there. You are usually at Dodge for about 3 months before you get placed. It is hard to say where she will go from there. It all depends on her sentence. Try not to worry too much, she will be fine there. If you have more questions you can pm me and I will try to answer them for you. Karen

Thanks for the information. We haven't heard from her yet, but are trying to wait patiently. It's not easy, as I'm sure you know. I'm glad to know it won't be so bad. This is a culture shock for her, as well as our family. It's nice to know we're not alone. Thanks again.

My friend is in Tacheedydah (sp?) women's facility in Fond Du Lac county. When I ask her about it, she says it's pretty laid back as long as you don't get mixed up in the soap-opra drama. She told me the girls form families, some of the gay women taking on the male relative roles. Sometimes they girls argue over each other, but my friend doesn't get involved, so she doesn't have any problems with anyone. She' goes to school and tries to keep busy, and she said her time is going by pretty quick now. The stereoptype of a women's prison doesn't really fit here in WI, from what I've heard.
I wish your neice the best. I hope she's able to hurry home to you:)

Prison in Wisconsin is only as bad as you make it. I was at Taych. and John Burke for 18 months. It wasn't that bad I was never scared or anything just missing home. The best thing you can do for anyone in there is keep in contact letters mean a lot they really help pass time. I know phone calls are expensive but a letter means just as much.

Once she reaches her final destination, I suggest adding another phone line with a local area code to her prison. I have a male friend at CVCTF, and the rate per call went from ~$7 to $1.32. That allowed him to call me everyday, even multiple times a day - never would have been possible at $7, and it keeps him sane :) Although, I hear rates are changing July 1, but we'll see. Something to consider when she's transferred to her perm. facility.

All phone calls at TCI are .12cents a minute now, they changed the charges, they are alot more affordable.
