Governor Vilsack signed a new bill into law for people that have no contact, restraining, and or protective orders in effect. Any findings that the defendant is guilty, it is mandatory jail time. The judges no longer have the choice of giving them jail time or not. They have to sentence them to jail if found guilty. If serving more than one day the time has to be served on consecutive days. And also, which I think is great, that a defendant that is found guilty, can be ordered to pay the plaintiff's attorney fees and court costs incurred in the proceedings.

I think this is great news. It's better than what we had before. I just had to share since I've been going through this mess for the last 3 years and some change. Give them jail time. There's no reason that any of us should have to live in fear everyday and the only ones that seem to be "punished"

Like I said, I jsut had to share the news.

That is great news! I think they should make that a federal law, or a law that encompasses all states. It sure would have been nice if legislators cared enough back when about all of us getting abused the way they do now.
