Hi, I have a friend who's daughter is having trouble with an ex- boyfriend who sounds like he's stalking her. Where can I tell her she can go for help? I'd truely like to get her some info on it; don't know much about this subject. Thanks! cheryl

Cheryl, I hear this is a touchy subject and the police don't do much???? How about a restraining order?? I'm sure someone will post that knows more than I do. Good luck!

I BELIEVE THERE ARE LAWS AGAINST STALKING BECAUSE SO MANY WOMEN HAVE BEEN HURT BY MEN WHO HAVE STALKED THEM. I WOULD CHECK WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN YOUR AREA. YOU SHOULD GET A RESTRAINIG ORDER IT'S NOT MUCH BUT IT'S A START.

Restraining orders take time...you can get a temporary one from the local police but to get a perm one you need to go to court and battle it out. I use this from Illinois knowledge, but I have seen the same here in CA.

The Police out here responded within I think it was 24 hours when I had a threat from an ex - BUT they would not meet me at my home, for some reason they wouldn't meet me where the threat was made, I don't know why exactly. In Illinois (Chicago), they drove to my girlfriends apartment within an hour and took a statement from her to determine if it was necessary to have a restraining order filed.

Cheryl-Npot sure if it is the same in Florida but in NC you can get an ex-parte 50-B (restraining) order that will be effective until the court date-also your frined can take out a criminal warrant against him for stalking- I would also suggest she contact the local agency in your area (here it is Family Services of the Piedmont) that offers assistance for victims of domestic violence-she can get a victim advocate to help her with legal issues and other issues-

Exactly- I was going to advise to talk to a victim- advocate. They would tell her what to do and guide her through the whole process.

Good luck!!!
