Hi everybody,

I got a PM this morning asking me about my statement regarding sending Postal Money Orders to Inmates. They wanted to know if this was required in All the Prisons in ALABAMA. Or will other prisons accept a money order from any where? The particular Prison in this case is Kilby. In the event that they only accept Post Office MOs what will they do with any that is not right? Tutwiler puts then in an account for the Inmate and given upon their release from the prison.
Any help given here would be greatly appreciated as I could not honestly answer and would save this person a long distance call to the prison.

I don't remember what your original statement was...? But as far as I know all of the Alabama prisons will accept money orders from the "usual" companies - postal service, Travelers Express, Amex, Western Union, etc.

If someone is unsure they can always call the prison and ask.

Never heard of any of the AL prisons ONLY accepting postal money orders but I of course could be wrong...

Thanks for the general info on the Money Orders...the money order in question was purchased at a Big/Little Store and I am not sure if that is a convienence store. I was told by my daughter that for me to send her only Postal money orders to The women's prison at Tutwiler in Wetumpka.

I was told a long time ago that only US Postal MO's were acceptable......but I wanted to send one while I was there (in Alabama visiting him) and it was after post office hours so I bought and sent one from Walmart and he did get it. Now he tells me it just can't be from a bank????? I'm with Lysbeth, I say call and ask just to be sure. And a long distance call would be a good investment if it means the difference between them getting it and it being returned. At least it would be from my point of view...

Well, the only one I know of for sure that accepts most commercial money orders is Limestone... so if there's any doubt, like Care said it's worth the call to just call the prison and ask...
