I told my fiancee I'd find out more information about San Quentin for him. If he doesn't get a parole date in July, he is thinking of transferring to San Quentin by next year once his points drop again (has 28 points). He started off his prison sentence in San Q in 1980 and was transferred to Folsom several years later. I wish he wouldnt even consider San Q as it is too far from me, but I'm not the one who has to do the time in prison.
So if anyone has information about San Q level 2..or just in general..other than the info on the site, I'd really appreciate it....Thanks in advance,
Yasmeen

My fiance has been in San Quentin for 10 years on death row. If there is anything I can answer, please feel free to PM me. Have a terrific day.

I'm pretty sure all "requested" transfers were halted sometime about a year or so ago. The traditional "hardship" transfers are rarely granted and are extremely rare. Therefore, I sincerely doubt he will even be allowed to transfer.
If you're concerned about not recognizing him and I can understant that could be a bit awkward for you, simply ask the visiting staff to make sure he is directed to the both you will be placed in.

HI Brenda, I'm confused about your reply. My fiancee hasnt put in a request for a transfer as he is still at a level 3. I was just thinking ahead. And usually when he requests to go to a particular prison, they allow it, even though he may have to wait for beds to open up. I'm not trying to get him closer. He's only 2 hours away! But he's thinking about transferring to San Quentin which is like 8 hours away (I think). Thanks for the reply...

Hi Yasmeen!
Going back to your original post, you indicated that he entered the system in 1980 and only "several" years later transfered to Folsom. That would place it around the mid-'80's. Even assuming he transfered once or twice more sometime after that, this would still reflect transfers that were quite some time ago.
I think you may find that in recent years the "courtesy transfers" that traditionally occured on request, contigent on bed space, have indeed been drastically curtailed. Even the "hardship" transfers seem very rare in recent times. Don't get me wrong, I sure hope he gets to transfer whereever he wants and as often as he wants. I just don't think he's going to find the department as reasonably accomodating on this as they once were back in the 1980's.
Finally, why in the world would he "want" to transfer to San Quentin? San Quentin and Pelican Bay have their own seperate sections here on PTO and it ain't because they are desireable garden spots! Do me a favor, talk to him, slap him if ya have too!
