MISSION:
Provides a structured environment for inmates through the utilization of work and program resources. Houses prisoners with behavioral problems that cannot be addressed at other institutions. The prison also operates a Correctional Industries Plant.

HOUSING:
Seven buildings with twelve general population housing units and two administrative segregation /isolation units. General population units are double bunked single cells.

WORK DETAILS:
Supports Correctional Industries, institutional inside and outside grounds, labor details, and two community details.

Academic: GED, ABE, Literacy, Remedial

Substance Abuse: Substance Abuse Education, AA/NA

Counseling: Corrective Thinking, Family Violence, Victim Impact, Prerelease TOPPSTEP

I would think that they're all similar in that you can't send newspaper or books, except form the publisher. I'm sorry I can't help you more! Your best bet is to call the prison directly and ask what can be sent, when, when visits are and who can come. You might see if he has been assigned a counselor yet and get that name. Because of the budget problem, there may be few if any counselors - but there should be one person you can contact for info. Good luck!

My son is at Walker State Prison and is doing ok. In some ways it was easier for him when he was in a transitional mode - he did not think so at the time, but trying to figure out when and where he was going did keep him occupied. He is settled in now where he will be and is adjusting to that.

I stayed at the Best Western in Hinesville. It was about 1/2 hour from the prison. I've come to find out that Best Western really is the largest hotel chain, they are nearby to nearly 90% of the places that I've gone for visitation. I found the staff to be strict, yet nice and friendly. However, my friend advised me it's kind of rough and CORRUPT.

Thanks all for the help, I finally got to see my son this past weekend, hold him in my arms and hug him, the first time in over a year. I cried. We even found things to laugh about and that hug was almost as precious as the first time I held him in my arms when he was born. We ended up staying at the Glenville Inn, it was clean, quiet and they even allowed my mother to stay a little while longer than check out time since she still isnt on his visitation list yet. I couldn't stay as long as I wanted to though, his dad, my husband was hospitalized last thursday for congestive heart failure and pneumonia, 24 hours later after much prayer, double doses of antibiotics and hourly IV's of Lasix to relieve the fluids on his heart and lungs, he was out of danger, he insisted I go on to see our son and his doctor gave the OK to leave him since he was doing much better. Two of our grown children stayed at the hospital with their Dad and we took off on friday evening. 7 hours later we arrived in Glenville. All of the guards there were polite, except for the one at the front office. I don't think she liked her job, me or anyone there. I wasn't about to let her attitude ruin my first visit with my son. They did insist everyone visiting remain in their cars until 9:00 a.m. .. exactly. I had prearranged to meet my mother in the parking lot at 1:00 to head back home to the hospital, as time neared to leave, I started crying, big old tears trailing down my face, my son looked at me and said, Mom, please don't cry, please? I had wanted to leave him with a smile. When the guard escorted me to the front, he was so kind, he said, are you his Mom? I said, yes, he said, he'll be ok Mom, I've worked in every prison in Georgia, this is one of the best. (my son really had a laugh over that one) That guards kindness really went a long way to help. I hope he never grows bitter and keeps his compassion, he'll never know how that one act of kindness gave me courage to turn back and smile at my son.

I am glad you had a wonderful visit! See there, you had a positive experience with one of the CO's. I have no complaints, but there's always one bad apple. I'm glad you didn't let the miserable-with-my-life CO put a damper to your eventful day. I also hope your hubby is doing MUCH better.

Thanks Lorna, my husband is doing much much better, I even came home from work three days after he came out of the hospital to catch him on the riding mower cutting the front lawn - the neighbors got an earful. Seems big dummy doesn't realize he had lost so much potassium in the hospital and sweating was depleting that supply even more, I asked him was he trying to give himself another heart attack or me a nervous breakdown! I'm already missing my son again and wish I could see him this weekend, I really thought going to see him would shake me out of this lethargy, the blues. Or do you really ever shake them?
