My boyfriend is at this facility and has been told that this is a short-term facility. Is this true? If anyone has details on this prison please inform me.

Hi Lynn my boyfriend/finace is also at Wheeler but ,from things he has said, there are inmates at this facility with all different sentence lengths. He is only there through December 22nd but he actually started out at Gwinnett County on June 1st, then went to Coastal on July 17th, and then on to Wheeler August 23rd. This is my first time of having someone close to me in jail so I am still learning things but if there is ever anything I can help you out with just let me know. Take Care!!

Welcome to PTO and the Georgia board. I also have a loved one at Wheeler and will be glad to answer any questions you might have. As far as when he will be reviewed well the parole board and DOC move at their own pace and you will have to be patient. He should here something in a month or so though. In the meantime write the board and tell them what his release address would be, if he has a job see if you can get a letter to that effect. Just take it one day at a time and take a lot of deep breaths.

My son is at Wheeler. His profile does not show credit for his jail time. Whose responsibility is it to fix this?

He probably needs to talk to his counselor and have them get with records to check on dates. Was he held on any type of probation violation or other charges that were dropped before is conviction? A lot of times if he had misdemenors that were sentenced to time served the the DOC does not allow that to count toward the state time. Just giving a few possibilities, or sometimes human error is involved so tell him to keep after the counselor, most of the time they will not discuss this with anyone other than the inmate so he will have to handle the paperwork.

also get past the idea of "who's responsibility is it?" the doc and the parole board will make it very clear that NOTHING is their responsibility and that you are just as much at fault as your loved one who is locked up. we are all dirt under their feet in their eyes so they are not "responsible" to any of us for anything in their minds.

My son has been sent to Wheeler and I can't find any informatio online concerning care packages, vistation, basically ANYTHING! We have never been in this situation before, so I'm a true "newbie." He is having trouble getting this information as well. What can families do and not do? What does TPM stand for? I'd really be grateful for any help from anyone familiar with this facility. We are a 7 hour drive from him in TN. I would hate to go down there and then not be able to visit him. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance for ANY help at all!

KCB- I had a friend who did a few years down at Wheeler. You're not going to find this information on the web site- because Georgia's just really behind in technology stuff. The best way to get information is to either write your son and have him find out the answers from his counselor (they'll give him this info during orientation/ classification) or call down there as speak to his counselor yourself. Most of the administrative staffers are really helpful in cases like this... good luck!!

Does anyone use Global Tel Link to talk to your loved ones at Wheeler? Everytime I call Global Tel Link, they have a lot of trouble finding this facility. One representative said that they don't serve Wheeler

my husband is at wheeler and global tel link is the service provider for their collect calls. Here's their phone number 1-800-231-0193 .also i know that your loved one has to attempt to call before the account can be set-up. Hopefully this helps you. Feel free to ask any more questions you may have.
