Hello all my good friends. well i just thought we could all use some good thoughts. sometimes is so hard when our man is on d/r . but i know there is good and bad in everything in life. sometimes i am on top of the world when i am writing him or waiting for his phone call and getting read for the visits is so much fun. we all know how much are man appreciates us and that means the world to us. i think in some ways we are alot closer to our man then some. as we can not touch or kiss or hold eachother. but we do it mentally and i know at times i can feel him right next to me in what ever i am doing. that is such a good feeling. but is sad to think about the courts and the system. waitng so long for answers drives me nuts at times . the lawyers say as soon as we know something you 2 will be the first to know and it is years sometimes before you hear anything. of course we want years as we all know there in for d/p but i am just hoping so bad that the d/p is thrown out . the death penalty to me does not even make commen sence i don,t know how the people that are suppose run this country can think it does it has helped absolutely no one. and all it does is make things worse instead of better.they do not realize what they put the family through or the peoples kids. but i wonder if they even care and the victims family so many have said no to the death penalty. mistakes happen we are all human. but gives no right to take a life. it sure does not seem to be solviing the problems. there are so many murders committed everyday. and the death penalty has not slowed them down. just adds to yet antoher murder. ok sorry this got so long. but would like to hear your thoughts and feelings. as it is good for us to release them makes us all feel better. to all of us who have a man on the row. i say a prayer for both and wish us all the best of luck to end this stupid law. and change the world for a better place. peace and love to all mary

Mary you are so right, there is an old saying you can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results.
Also the ones coming to the row are getting younger and younger, to me that says we need to be looking at the reason why.
Jen I wish I had an answer to your question. I have always thought it was like hitting my child for hitting. It makes no sense, I think you need to find out why the child is hitting.
We need to stop the cycle of violence on both the States and our side.

I don't know what to say... I started this reply over for the 6th time now... I have some good friends who are on D/R. I do whatever I can to fight against the Death Penalty and even though it sometimes seems to be a hopeless fight I continue. Because when I give up hope so will my pals... The Death Penalty is soooo wrong! I wonder who gave these people the right to act like God to decide over the lives of people??? I hope and pray that one day our efforts will be successful and the Death Penalty will be abolished!

Thanks, peacetrails. I was kind of in a down mood, but what you said at the beginning of your post lifted my spirits. :)

The American people have become convinced that we can be protected from everything, if we only allow the government to pass the laws to protect us. This has become a very dangerous thing as the majority of us nolonger even question the laws that politicians label for our own good. Look at the changes made since 9-1-1 occurred. We have had some of our constitutional rights stripped to the bare bone and others for all practical purposes taken completely away. Still, the majority supports the decisions because it is for our own good, or so they believe.
People in our nation are following blindly what politicians dictate as right. The tough on crime speeches sounds good to the masses. Afterall, it will keep our children safe. It will keep us safe or so too many of us believe. We are told we live in a dangerous world and the media shows us how dangerous. We must be protected and we have 2 million people in prisons across the nation to prove that. More than 4000 of these are the so-called "monsters" that society must be protected from that are condemned to death. Or so, the people are told they are the monsters. The fact that far worse criminals receive lesser sentences is ignored, by the media and thus by society.
Too much is ignored, because the masses believe if government does it is for our own good. More than a dozen states do not use the death penalty, but their crime rates are no higher than anywhere else. In fact in some instances, their crime rates are lower. Texas, my home state murders repeatedly, but our crime rates are not drastically diminished. Still, ask 7 of 10 Texans and they will tell you without the death penalty we will be in grave danger. We do not save tax dollars by the killing either. Yet, it is a commonly held belief, in our society that it costs more to incarcerate than go through the lengthy appeals process. Americans are following blindly in a tradition long since abandoned by all other civilized nations, many of which do not have near the crime problem that we face. And, they follow based on a false belief that it keeps them safe.
Even the bible that is so often used to justify the killing equates all sin as equal, with only blasphemy being greater than any other. However, we do not execute those who commit adultery, or steal, or disobey their parents or GOD. There is also the fact that God forgave the act of murder many times, including the murders committed by his chosen Paul. This concept of forgiveness in biblical text seems completely overlooked by to many, who sling their bible at the condemned man as justification for the blood on their hands when the accused is murdered by the state, in the name of justice.
Those of us who love the death row inmate hold a knowledge of human nature, the system and our society that others prefer ignore in their quest for vengeance and supposedly thereby safety. We understand that the murder of one human does not make up for the loss of another. It only leaves another family with an entirely new set of wounds. My engagement to a man on Arizona death row has opened my eyes wide to the indifference of those around me. He has opened my eyes to my own indifference, as well as what was only a few months ago my ignorance to the injustice and inhumanity of what happens to him and thousands of others. Herein, I have realized we own more power in this than we realize.
None of us has the financial power to cast the net the government can by the use of the media, thus our fight is meant to be a long one. But, just as learning the facts brought me around from the deep rooted Southeast Texas prejudice that convinced me once that my fiancé’s execution would be an act of justice, so is it needed to open the eyes of others. We may not can move masses immediately, however we do have the power to educate, if only one person at a time.
We do it by the mere act of teaching our own families to look upon these men with compassion. I see my love growing outside of me and extending to my children and grandchildren, which means thus far I have begun to educate 10 others and there will be more. However, I realize the test is in the next time I am faced with opposition in those outside my family, as a few months ago. At those moments, I must be able to speak not as the angry loved one of a condemned man, which I will remain for all the days of my life. But, I must learn to use all the emotions I feel, including love and anger to bring myself to a place that when I defend my beliefs concerning the death penalty I educate, not offend those I speak to. We can win one heart at a time; other countries have done it.
I have been searching for some way to begin to make a real difference in all of this and I think possibly in speaking to you I have found a place to start. I need to educate myself and I do mean facts figures and concepts, but as well the human side of those we love. Our beliefs are right, but unfortunately we must convince the world and must speak with authority to accomplish this. I thought perhaps, if the others of you who for whatever reason oppose the death penalty would be interested that we might find someway to establish a series of threads through PTO. These could help us all to become authorities on the system and those caught within its web. It could also educate any others who might visit our forum and search for the knowledge of our plight. There is a lot of information available and the more we learn and share the closer we will be to ending an inhumane and unjust system that threatens the hearts of us all.
If anyone has any ideas, how we might begin to become united in our efforts, please contact me.

Peace trails,I am not insensitive to everyone else, but I must say I am brought to tears by your post..I so understand the ups and downs of having a man in prison...One thing that is hard to realize sometimes is that someone always has it harder than you..I am realizing through your post that Others are in worse off situations than I.I will say a prayer for you and keep you in my thoughts..I know your man is probably praying heavily in there..I know it must be so hard for him and you the same.God can move mountains and if he can do that then he can move on the hearts of judges and lawyers and who not.Just try to keep your faith in him...Right now you need to have more faith and strength than ever and God is able...Don't forget it!!keep in touch..I haven't had better support than from the Lord and from other people on this sight right here...
