View Full Version : Quick question before surrendering Friday.

Wow, it’s almost Friday. I thought I had all my questions covered. But there is one more:

The BOP website shows my number in the following format: xxxxx-xxx. Is this the number that should appear next to my name when somebody sends me mail?

In other words, is this my permanent number or will it change?

At what point can I mail myself a letter with the phone numbers and addresses of people?

When can I start receiving mail while inside?

Thank you

Jenny

That is your BOP Register number, and it will be yours forever!! But remember you are more than just a number.

Your number should be with your name on any mail sent to you.

I would go ahead and mail in your addresses. Send yourself whatever you might need, like photos or a magazine.

Good luck to you!! You can do this.

Don't send anything to yourself that is obviously from yourself... use someone else's name and address... family member, etc. That way, if it gets returned they can re-send it. Also, don't count on actually getting it either. Sometimes things have a habit of getting lost in the mailroom if you get my drift. Never send anything that cannot be replaced. Send copies whenever possible. That works for pictures too. You can get color copies made at most any print shop... send them not the original! Remember ALL INCOMING MAIL IS OPENED AND INSPECTED! If you are surrendering to a camp, usually you can expect to seal outgoing letters but there's no guarantee there either. Don't send stamps! You have to buy them there. Usually you can arrange to get a few loaners from somebody until you get yours from the commissary if necessary.

You will be able to purchase stamps there.

When writing a federal prisoner....this would be a way for you and your loved ones to address envelope. Now familiar with Taft...but I am sure it must be close if not the same.

In all the years we have been dealing with this system....we have only had a few pieces of mail that went out in spcae somewhere. Multiple pieces that have been torn up in transit....but eventually made it to me in a clear postal bag....very rarely do we have any trouble besides the amount of time it takes to travel!

You can start receiving mail the day you arrive! I know this....because I sent another member of PTO a card...before she even surrendered and she thanked me for being able to receive mail the first night she was there!

Jenny (and Ken)
Wishing you speed through your time! Keep your mind busy, your nose clean and stay focused on positive things! You will continue to be in our thoughts! And I am hoping, upon your arrival back home you come visit us and possible help some others down the road with this!

Jenny (kapara) surrendered last Friday and I had her address and number to send mail. Still today, the BOP website says no one is in their system with that name or register number.

Any ideas... what's going on?

Did you try different spellings of her name?

I see here she used Jenny....could it be Jennifer? I did not get any information from her so I don't even have anything to try with. Let me know if you come up with something.

I have tried Jenny and Jennifer. Also, I tried the number she gave me. Is it a register number? or INS number? or FBI number?

It is wierd because I have been sending mail to about 5 women who have surrendered in the last couple of months. Each time I check the website and verify the info they give me with no problem.

I have already sent mail to Jenny. I hope to God she gets it and I hear back from her. She was such a godsend to me and while waiting to surrender she helped me research my entire case, sending me all kinds of links and helped me read the sentencing guidelines.

I just find it so strange that I can't locate her thru the BOP website.

Sheryl~

Me too, I did the same checks, with the "Jenny" and "Jennifer." Also tried the registration number. No inmate listed with that info.

Gosh, I hope she gets our mail!! Anyone, with any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

There are some cases...where an inmate number and name will not show up.
greyghost has explained some of this in the past....but I have no clue where to start looking! We have to many post around here! Second thought...no we don't! :p

Anyhow...maybe he will stop by here and give us some pointers.

Do you know where she was "self surrendering" at? If so, you should be able to send it there and if she has been moved, they will forward mail.

That probably means my letter will come back also.

I mailed to - Jenny Schneider #78184-004
FCI Coleman, PO Box 1022, Coleman, FL 33521-1022

I wonder what is wrong??? Did she give us the wrong information? by accident? on purpose? This is so wierd, I don't know what to think....

OK, I know her brother is staying at her house and taking care of the kids in her and her husband's absence. I just sent email to her hotmail account. I am hoping someone in her family will see her email and send the correct information. I will let you know if I get a response.

Hi, every one I'm new at this and I am scared to death. I have to surreneder to CARSWELL ON THE 8TH of June. I have found bits & pieces of info but still not sure what to expect. I take prescribed meds for depression and wonder how to handle this when I get there. How long do you wait for visits ?

Have you read the Womens Federal Prison Camps thread?

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50568

There is a lot of information there. you will be evaluated by the medical staff when you arrive and they will determine what meds you will be given.

Whebn you arrive you will fill out information for a visitors list. For those that are not listed in your PSI you will have to send a visitors form for them to fill out and send back. Then you just wait for approval.

If we can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to ask!
