Here's the link to the GA parole board's frequently asked questions. It says inmates are eligible for parole after serving 1/3 of their sentences.

http://www.pap.state.ga.us/opencms/opencms/

There are also some old Prison Talk discussions, one is here concerning the "grid" the board uses to decide who gets parole.

Not to attempt to disagree with the previous poster.

Where I live, it is NEVER consistent regarding Sentence Length and Parole Date.
I've seen 2nd & 3rd strikers convicted of Meth Manufacturing get out in 2 yrs.
{squeal, rat, snitch, CI or Daddy's $$$} IMHO anyway

The Parole Board has the right to parole anyone, anytime, however they can and sometimes do interview persons related to the case..

One site I visited, said the Judge, the DA both have a vote in the process, now I cannot find the site where I read that and I only trust certain sites for accuracy.
The file contains a personal interview with the inmate, diagnostic prison data, social background information, and legal circumstances of the offense(s), possibly interviews with prosecutors or arresting officers or victims. Criminal history is included in the file, obtained from juvenile records, the GBI and FBI. Letters from the community are read and pertinent information is extracted and placed in the file along with court official comments.

So how irritated is the Judge or Da in a persons case ?
This may throw a wrench in the gears.

I do think letters from "credible" sources to the Parole Board weigh in favor of him.
Credible sources such as the Pastor, HS Principal, Teachers, Boss at work, Plant Manager, etc

Also person in a Civic Duty, or Work management position that can put his/her "title" on the header or signature section of the page.

Letters from family have little impact on the decision, however if 299 people from family wrote brief, honest and convincing letters citing his risk to NEVER Re-Offend, these will most certainly have merit.

Good Luck

BOY, once an attorney gets done with the trial or court date, they're DONE with you.
