Didn't know if you guys knew about this or not, and I'm not sure how many of us this will affect, but I thought I'd share. Right now this file is on the Vilsacks desk waiting for his signature. If he signs this, which I"m hoping with everythign in me that he will b/c the House and the Senate passed it, it means that our men who were sentenced before 7-1-03, will be eligible for parole after serving 70% of their time. That's automatically. It's no longer up to the sentencing county atty, etc...it'd be so awesome. If this bill passes, my baby could come home to me in a little over a year and some change. I'm sure a lot of our men would benefit from this. Would any of you be willing to send Vilsack an email asking him to sign this? I'm just curious. I have one put together and ready to be sent. More than likely I'll send it to him tonight. I just had to share.

Is this only for Iowa? If so, are people from outside of the state allowed to e-mail this guy? Let me know.

This law is only for the state of Iowa, but I believe that anyone can email the governor of any state. His name is Thomas Vilsack. As of last year he wanted a greater impact for reducing the number of people in prison here, so I don't know why it's taking him so long to sign this bill.

Great news Tana, I too hope he signs it. I'd be willing to help out also. I dont think it will affect me though as Ricky was sentenced after the 7/03 date, but I am always game to help out where ever I can. Could you post the email address that we need to use please? Im sure others would be willing to do the same.

Thanks Weddings. I just put in my email to him, that I think that he should sign the bill into law. I asked him to look at how many families and inmates it would help as well as help with the prison overcrowding,etc... Anything you're willing to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

My friend is sentenced to life in prison, I am working on a appeal from the governor. It is very hard but we are doing the best we can!!!

Thank You so much!! I went and checked on the bill tonight and he has not signed it yet. I dont' know what he's waiting for, but he needs to hurry up. The anticipation is killing me. Besides, my honey asks me about it every day. I have an obsession with checking this bill now for his signature. I wish he'd just do it. Last year he talked about wanting the house and senate to do more to bring more inmates home, and now they've come up with something more wonderful and he's piddlin around with signing it. Ugh!!! The mans is going to drive me crazy. I wish I could sign it for him.

MLANGCASI- Thank YOu so much for your support. I wish what one state did the others did too unless it was not good. The way I see it, no matter how long they make a person serve, if they're going to reoffend they're going to reoffend regardless of how long they were inside. Guess what guys? Vilsack signed the bill. WOOHOO!!! My BaBy will be eligible for parole in a little over a year. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to tell him. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
