nonpredictable 06-18-2004, 10:56 PM ;) Here's a "fun" question, something I have noticed in the past 6 months since my husband got locked up. Has your guy GAINED WEIGHT because he is eating junk from commisary? Six months ago, Ron weighed 170 pounds, he is now around 200 and looks pregnant! He says he IS pregnant, with a baby elephant, and wants to know if I want to see his trunk ..... yes, as a matter of fact, I do! Thanx!

hi i noticed that you were from estherville ia, and was just wondering ifyou happend to know a michael mann? or perhaps his parents, jerry and lois mann. the reason i am asking is because my dad is in yankton with michael and they are pretty good friends but he wont tell my dad his when his birthday is, so i am trying to figure it out for him. but when i go to the bop website and look up his name it gives me everthing but his birthdate. do you know of any other way of finding out an inmates birthdate? thanks so much  :)
Jessakitty4946 03-22-2005, 07:49 PM Hey maybe this might be a good one too, it's kind of a spin off of the judicial branch page, but it's where you can look up anyone's record, including financial parts (how much you owe the state for restitution, fines, etc). I find it helpful when trying to determine how much my hubby owes yet & stuff.

Jessakitty4946 03-22-2005, 07:51 PM Oh! And though winter is almost over, you can go to this site for road conditions on most highways in the entire state. I found this helpful with respect to the whole visit or not visit while it's snowing debate.

Hope'sAunt 08-21-2007, 11:55 AM Hi!
My brother has requested to be paroled in IA and his home plan is our mom's.
I went to the links provided and searched the sites, but could not find any mention of home plan rules, especially dealing with "sex offenders".
If you know of a web-site which has these rules, or can tell me if a "sex offender" is allowed to live in a mobile home park, I would greatly appreciate your reply.
God Bless,
-T.
loneywithoutyou 08-21-2007, 04:56 PM All I know is you have to call the sheriff of the town and talk to them to see if they can live there.
Greengirl6773 08-21-2007, 07:31 PM All I know is you have to call the sheriff of the town and talk to them to see if they can live there.
Wow...and this is supposed to be America...the land of the free
loneywithoutyou 08-22-2007, 09:33 AM Thats exactly how I feel!! But theres not awhole lot you can do if your a sex offender. No one go streaking anytime soon, because if you get caught. You are now a sex offender.
Did you know, not here in iowa but someone else in this country, they are making a sibdivison. In this subdivison everyone has to have a background check and if you are a sex offender you cant live there. I THOUGHT WE GOT RID OF SEGRAGATION IN THE 60S? apparently not. Just because someones not a 'sex offender' doesnt mean they arent going to commit a crime. And what about drunk drivers? How are you going to prevent them for stolling down your streets? It makes me sick how idiotic some poeple can be.
zcomm3 08-22-2007, 11:15 PM In Mason city and surrounding towns they are not allowed to be within so many feet of a park, school, playground, daycare and other places kids might be. I am tired of this being the soul topic of conversation at our council meetings. They are pushing them underground and I believe that will make it worse. Some have been forced to move out of their homes because it is close to one of those places I listed above. I guess I would want to be able to keep and eye on them vs. not knowing who they are and having them stalk your child. Don't mean to ramble but I do believe they have pushed it a bit far. I agree in protecting kids from the ones that prey on them and all, but there has got to be a better method to do it.

Greengirl6773 08-23-2007, 08:24 PM I'm not sure what all of the crimes are here, so I hope I'm not offending anyone, but I'm going to spit it out anyway. Like many people, I'm not big on sex offenders...especially those who commit a crime against a child. I don't want them around my kids. However, as a parent, I hold some responsibility in where my children go and what they do. What really scares me about living restrictions for sex offenders is to think about who they're going to go after next. One town here in Nebraska was trying to do the same with people convicted of drug crimes. THAT is really scary!!!
loneywithoutyou 08-24-2007, 08:44 AM Ever since Iowa made those 2000 ft rules more sex offenders have gone missing. They cant find a place to live, so they dont register. Also I dont know the exact statistic, but most sex offenders never reoffend. How many people date older people in high school? I know I did. 16 Dating a 21 year old. If we were to have had sex, and my parents found out, he would have become a sex offender. Peeing in public... sex offender. Dont get me wrong there are some sex offenders out there who I dont want to even come near my zip code. But not all sex offenders are bad.
Greengirl6773 08-24-2007, 07:45 PM Also I dont know the exact statistic, but most sex offenders never reoffend.
One of my CJ teachers a few years ago "specialized" in sex offenders. She said this as well. It sounds hard to believe, but I'm guessing it has to do with the types of crimes you commit. I'm guessing that most sex offenders are not the kind we all love to hate, so that is how the statistic comes about.
frkydaze 08-26-2007, 09:45 PM heck when I was 17 I dated a 21 year old. It wasn't that big of a deal.. of course, through the law we could have gotten into alot of trouble..
In God I Trust 08-29-2007, 01:17 PM This thread makes me so proud of all of you.
Sex Offenders (SO) are NOT high in recidivism; maybe 3-5% which is very low.
SO are all lumped into one big net and then sentenced alike. The mandatory sentences are cruel and destroy families along the way. The inhumane Witch Hunt is in full force and the law makers are using it to scare the hell out of people (SO behind every bush) in order to get more votes: the more fear the more out-cry; the more out-cry the more laws; the more laws the more votes for the insane fear-provokers. It's a vicious circle that is all politically motivated!
Ask someone who has committed a severe crime if they have learned something;
ask them if it was worth it and the majority will have learned a dear lesson. Add therapy and rehabilitation services and you have a person with just as good a chance of healing and living a normal life as the next person. BUT they are not offered ANYTHING until the last of their sentence: 25 years mandatory at 70%= 171/2 years..... three years before their sentence is up they are moved to Mt. Pleasant to wait in line to go through the program.
What about the family left behind? What about the man who truly wants the program and therapy but is denied? Witch Hunt with an agenda: Lock em up and throw away the key; after all, they aren't human beings and their families don't count.
MY children count just as much as the children of other prisoners who get visits and are not pronounced guilty by association.
Thanks for letting me vent.

EDIT: I almost forgot to ask almost the same question about parole. Does my husband have to parole to the county he was convicted in? Can he parole to me in another county? I need to find a home that is out by itself to qualify, with the distancing laws. Maybe I'll have to move back here to this county. Does anyone have any place I can look?
Thanks
SaraTony2005 08-29-2007, 03:26 PM I believe he can parole to you where ever you are. But I would warn you that with mandatories they don't get parole. Sorry.
Greengirl6773 08-29-2007, 06:13 PM IGIT: You're forgetting what good Chris Hanson & Dateline are doing for sex offenders :D
In God I Trust 08-29-2007, 06:32 PM I don't watch any tv so please inform me?
What I mean by parole is he has to do 17 1/2 years of the 25. What do you mean by no parole? No earlier than the 17 1/2 years... right?
IGIT
Greengirl6773 08-29-2007, 06:53 PM You mean you haven't seen any of the To Catch a Predator shows? If you haven't, don't bother! You can probably see what I'm talking about if you go to the Dateline website.
loneywithoutyou 09-01-2007, 10:07 AM I was informed that they have to go back to the originating county. But I dont know really.... IGIT you are my hero. You are my inspiration. Thanks for all that you say and do!
SaraTony2005 09-01-2007, 10:18 AM I don't think that they have to go to the originating county. My ex was out of Johnson county and he came to live with me in Linn. I think that they can live where-ever but it has to be approved with there "home plan".
In God I Trust 09-01-2007, 03:41 PM LWY, you are very kind and I know the reason why... not really, I'm just presuming that you understand where I'm coming from.
Lately, it's hard to find someone who isn't affected one way or another by this Witch Hunt. Think hard and you either know someone or someone's friend or relative that has been touched by this thing called sexual abuse.
We all need to have compassion for one another; forgiveness should be the very start of rehabilitation. I never thought it would be my family that was next in line to be destroyed. It can happen.

frkydaze 09-03-2007, 10:21 PM With Steven, he's able to parole to me after he completes a work release time in a HH. He was convicted in another county, so I'm pretty sure it's a possibility.. like Sara said it just has to be in their "home plan".. you know, the PO has to come check out the house, all that jazz, etc etc.
In God I Trust 09-07-2007, 11:50 PM Thanks, that does make sense. I'm going to be far away from here in a place that will be acceptable before-hand. I've been searching for the right place. It helps to know where he will be discharged from. The hope is that he will be so old they will find him less harmless than even right now. Being old does have its advantages.
I"m hoping by then a PO will be available with some human qualities. God will still be in control.
IGIT
SaraTony2005 09-08-2007, 10:34 AM IGIT~Tony also has a mandatory. He has to do 8.5 years. Per the parole boards website he isn't able to get a parole. All we can hope for is HH with only 6 months to go. But like he has said, by then he might as well stay. Hell we can both do 6 months standing on our head. Why risk the HH if you only have that short of time to go. I'd rather him walk out & know that he is comming home with me. I don't think that I could pick him up at the prison & know that I have to drop him off in 1 hour. It would be too hard on me. And him as well.
In God I Trust 09-09-2007, 07:06 PM He had 25 years and has to do 17 1/2 before he can try for parole... if he waited it out it would be the whole 25 years. We got the lifetime parole taken off as they sentenced him using the wrong year. He will have parole for 7 1/2 years if he is allowed to leave prison. They hate him with a passion and we have no idea what his PSI report says because they cheated him and lied about him and let a lot of hearsay stand. His whole case was built on atrocious lies and an attorney who did not care what he was doing. This is why the visits are so important to me. They want him to die in prison without ever seeing his family again. I must not feed on this anymore. I have to go on and take what I can get. My heart is so full of sorrow, but there is also hope.
IGIT
SaraTony2005 09-09-2007, 11:17 PM At 17 1/2 years he will discharge. That means he will walk out of prison a free man. That is what Tony is going to do. He wants to be able to walk out & have a drink if he wants to. He better not. I have something else for us to do!!! But, IGIT, there is talk of reducing the mandatory to 70%. it will take some time off. So that is a good thing. Keep your head up.
Greengirl6773 09-10-2007, 06:07 AM We would love the opportunity to parole. We've talked about it a million times and we don't care what they want from him, what he can or can't do, etc. We just want him out here. I realize some guys can't hack it (my ex being one of them), but I would be really pissed off if Billy were given the chance to come home on parole and passed it up!
In God I Trust 09-10-2007, 01:41 PM I'm so confused! It's already at 70% for mandatory... do you mean down to 50%? We got the ending "lifetime parole" taken off; but not many like us get parole very soon... What am I not getting here? I know there is no parole, so do you really mean doing the 70% of mandatory is it? Where do I go to find out?
I feel what you are talking about Dawn and I would take anything, too, if he could just get out. We would hibernate and write a journal daily; he's not planning on a driver's license or job cause he will be so old.

T/S I hope you are right! With no lifetime parole for us... well, I just hope you are right. I would never want that H/H either. But I'm still thinking it is different for a SO. I'm going to the parole boards web.
But, IGIT, there is talk of reducing the mandatory to 70%. it will take some time off. So that is a good thing. Keep your head up.
I do hope you mean down to 50%! I pray with my whole heart that this happens. But it is talked about a lot in prison and it ends up a rumor.

Sorry a little off subject but I know someone who recently was charged with buying over the legal limit of psuedephedrine that she and her son both use for allergies. Their insurance doesn't cover a prescription for it so she was buying for both of them (he's 15). Now there are parents of her son who won't let their kids hang around her son because of it because she is "obviously a meth manufacturer!". My point is that things aren't always as they seem. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!!
tilforever08 09-05-2009, 09:06 AM my husbands case was in every paper in the state when he got arrested.. i defended him up and down on message boards all over the country b/c it somehow got to different states. people don't understand and don't get it, the ones that are so quick to judge are the ones that know NOTHING, so i do agree dontkno.
