In several of my posts I have mentioned the Alderson Hospitality House. This is a ministry for the friends and relatives of the women inmates housed at FPC, Alderson, WV.

I thought I would post a little more information about it here for those who have someone at Alderson, and are traveling to see them.

Thanks for the info. I've heard mention of it - but haven't seen any actual details until now. Do you know if they allow kids?

FriscoLady,

The hospitality house is a great place and a godsend for so many of the women at Alderson.

Wonder how many more of these exist! I had never heard of them except here on PTO! But then...I've learned a lot here! :p

I've read about Alderson Hospitality House and plan on visiting my daughter at Alderson soon. I know they work on a donation basis. Can anyone tell me how much they donated, and if there is a usual amount? The plane fare was really expensive, but, I miss my daughter so much, that I found a way to get there. Now I am just wondering how much more I should come up with for the stay. Thanks for any info.

I stayed at Alderson Hospitality House many times while my daughter was in prison. Although it was quite some time ago, things are probably still the same.
They never asked for money, but simply left a blank envelope in the room. If you don't have extra money to donate you can tell them and they will understand. They are absolutely wonderful and I would not have been able to visit as much as I did if it wasn't for AHH.
I believe in them so much that I am still on their mailing list and I donate whenever I can eventhough my daughter is no longer in prison.
If you feel you must donate something, then even $10 or $20 would be appreciated.
One of the best parts of staying there is the meeting of family members of other prisoners, so that you don't have to go back to a motel room alone, but rather have someone to have conversation with if you so desire - and they understand you.

Let me just add my two cents about the Alderson Hospitality House. They are in NO way affiliated with the prison or BOP. They are run by a private charity and are absolutely wonderful. I had the chance to stay there the night before I checked in for my six month stay at Alderson last year. They were great. It's a great three story house - much like a bed and breakfast and they are there for the families and loved ones of the women at Alderson. They do NOT charge for their services....but accept donations of whatever a person can afford...and if you can't afford anything...they don't ask. They love children...and the advantage of staying there - rather than alone in a hotel room...is the camaraderie of being with other families that are going thru what you are going thru. The sharing and special understanding that can only come from someone else that is going thru it too. It's a great place. I can't speak highly enough about them!
