well i just got off the phone with the guy at the half way house and he said he denied joe on the fact of what the counselor said about him just faking it and that he thinks joe is instituitionalized....so he said no matter what when they see his case this thurs that he will be denied due to the fact that he has no home and job plan, he also said that all the halfway houses are booked solid and i reaaaaaaaaaally wanted him to get out on papers so that he would know he had to act right, im not so sure ill want to have much to do with him if he gets to EOS in november cause he will think he can just be buck wild and i cant have that around my kids....any suggestions on how to find him a quick last min facility would be really helpful, thanks

wow talk about getting different info from different folks, i just got off the phone with Ms Cochran and she stated that NO he will not get denied based on that he doesnt have somewhere to go. she said for me to write them and fax it over with information that im currently trying to find a facility for him, she also told me that his parole only lasts as long as his minimum sentence which is in nov 2005 and not the full ten years....so i hope my experience and information with this strange situation will help others looking for some answers

well i wanted to continue to share information with joes release so that if anyone is going to be using a halfway house upon their loved ones release they would know what to expect....something isnt setting so well with me about the rapha house but its the only place i could find for him to go to at the last min...heres the prob....the first 7 weeks he is there will be "free of charge" the state pays...and he cant work he only does classes....well heres the big beef i have....he will then have to (im assuming sign a contract) agree to pay 1500 dollars for the rest of the time there no matter what his length of stay is....and that money is to be paid to the halfway house BEFORE any money can be paid to his family , my thoughts are that hes been away for two years and if its someone else it may be many more years that their family has lived wihtout any financial assisance from the inmate, it will take a REALLY long time to pay 1500 dollars out so there is no telling how long it will be before he can help with me and the kids.....on top of this i spoke with two other facilities and they were floored that they could charge that much....the guy in decatur said in all his years of doing this hes NEVER heard of any place charging that much or that way....anyone have an opinion on this?

Ragland, from what i could find out from most of the halfway houses in Alabama. the inmate pays $ 80.00 when they enter the halfway house and $100.00 per week for housing plus $4.00 a day for transportation.$120.00 a week is what most would pay. I can't imagine paying $1500.00. this must be for some kind of treatment program(?) from what I could understand, the state will pay for the first weeks that an inmate can't pay due to finding a job and getting a payday.

yeah its a faith based treatment program but the classes only last for that first 7 weeks paid for by the state....funny how the treatment stops after that but then they want more money than even the state pays....just seems odd to me

my thinking is if in the 7 weeks i can find him some other halfway house thats more affordable and able to let him send money home to his family can he move to it since it will be out of the area.....or will his parole officer stop that process....as crooked as some agencys are and as much as the POs are undersupervised it wouldnt shock me for halfway houses to somehow have an "agreement" that the POs WONT agree to that change of residency therefore leaving the inmate stuck there .....just a thought

I saw where one halfway house in alabama was being closed and the parolees was being evicted. now that is terriable, these guys have no where to go. it appears that HUD closed them down because they had 4 guys living in one apartment. I can't see what that would matter after all they were working and making an attempt to get their life in order.
