I just want to know what visiting is like at Corcoran. if someone can tell me I would really appreciate it. I sent my application two months ago and I haven't heard anything yet? Does it usually take this long?My boyfriend is on a level 3 they have been on lockdown for about one month and a half does anyone know if this is why I haven't heard from anyone letting me know if I'm approved?

Neilly,
I really can't say if that's the reason why you haven't heard if you've been approved or not. You can call the prison directly @ 1-559-992-7100. Tell them that you are calling to find out if your visiting form has been approved. If you get a good one (CO), they'll tell.
Or they may tell you to call CDC. I don't have that number, sorry!
Now, about visiting:Going up- If you are going to drive, DON'T try to follow the directions off of the cumputer! They'll have you getting all kinds of lost. I only drove up there 3 times, one of those was by myself. The best thing to do is to call the prison and ask them which way to go once you take the exit that says Corcoran State Prison. That much I do remember.

Going in: With you man being on lockdown, You're going to want to get there EXTRA EXTEA EARYL.You only get an hour visit because it's behind the glass. So they try to give everyone a visit ( not going to happen). If/When you drive up to the gate have your DL ready to show. Have all your monies ready ($30.00 in quarters only)
vending machines, only 1 key (car), 1 pair of earrings, 1 ring/wedding set, 1 necklace with or without 1 charm, 1 bracelet. With all that ready, park your car quickly and safely as close to the building that will be directly in front of you when first turn into the parking lot. Go to the left side of the desk and get a visiting slip (you might have to ask for it), fill it out and remember to write your DL number on the bottom, speed is your friend!, drop the slip in the box at the other end of the desk and have a seat.

Dress: No jeans, period!, kahaki colored clothes, underwire bras, speghetti straps, wigs or hair pieces, see through clothing, belts, hooded top or jackets, as you can see, there are alot of No's. I wore all of the same color (not blue or red) Knitt or velevteen sweat suits are good. Your shirts have to be able to cover you belly when you put your hands over your head. Shorts, skirts, and dresses have to fall 2 inches or more below your knee. No low cut tops. If the COs say NO, there's a trailor that has clothes to "help". You may be asked to take off your shoes before you to through the metal detector.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. That's one of the reasons I'm here.

Also be advised you CAN NOT set foot on the prison grouds until 8 AM or lose your visit for that day. They have been very strict about this the last month so wait in the car line until 0754 and drive slowly with the car line.
The car line is off King street just before the prison...if you arrive around 7 am you will see a line has started to form. If you are coming from Whitley Ave. you will drive past this street going south on Otis ave (which changes names frequently and finally ends up as King St) and the car line forms on the street to the left just before the water tower.
If you are driving West from hwy 43 you will turn right on King St. and the car line starts on the first street to your right past the water tower.
Hope this helps you in NOT getting lost as I drove around for an hour my first time out and was lost in no time.
Also if you are coming from 43 you will take the road that says corcoran state prison and not the one that says SATF. once on the road you will bear left over the tracks and take the first right PAST the tracks....that will take you to the prison entrance. if it is after 8 AM you can go onto the property by going left at the prison entrance, if it is before 8 am you must go to the car line by taking a right on King St.
There are some CO's that aren't very nice there but as of yet I have had little problems with them. Most however are very nice. I mind my P's and Q's and don't do much to give them reason to "single me out".
Just remember who is in control...we sure aren't....and you will be fine.
