Does anyone use the service of VINE to find out when there loved one has been transferred? If so, is it helpful to register with them since they don't give us that information? I was wondering if I should register for the call from them to get that information.
Thanks for your help.
i read about it in another thread and called the number......it was GA's line! :D
i wish NY would have one. i think it would be so helpful!
i am not sure if we do or how ya find that out........
I know that the VINE number here in Idaho will tell you where the inmate is without actually registering. All you have to do is enter in the inmate number and it tells the location. You can register for the phone call so they notify you when/if the inmate is moved, but I have never registered since I already know where he is.

Is there an actual VINE line in NY or do we just have the Internet?

Isn't NYDOCS inmate lookup just about the same thing? I haven't read anything about VINE but if it is just to find out where an inamte gets sent the NY DOC site does that. As far as I know, the DOC site is updated daily. Or is this VINE proactive, in that they call you, rather than a passive form of finding out (we go tot he site and look it up)?

Basicly VINE does tell the same info as the DOC sites. The reason that VINE was started was to notify victims of any location changes or more importanty the release. The victim can have it set up to get a phone call if there are any chnages in the inmates location

Yes, NYDOCS inmate lookup is the same thing, but I found that it doesn't get updated right away. When my fiance was transferred I received a letter from him before the inmat lookup was updated and it was almost a week later. I thought maybe VINE would be updated faster due to it being focused around the "victims".

I doubt that VINE would get the information faster. They dont release that information due to "security" reasons. I guess they dont want people to know where the inmate is going and try to sabotage the trip or something. who knows, but i always find out when my husband calls me himself or have someone else call me.
