Dear PTO members,
For some of you, the last few months at PTO has been a little frustrating with regards to site “construction”. What we hoped would go seamlessly (upgrading to v2) turned into a long haul that didn’t feel like it would ever be completed. Worse, the site loading speed ended up being substantially reduced, which made many of our dialup members have painfully long page load times. For this and any other problems you may have experienced, I apologize.
Starting tomorrow, we will embark on upgrading the site one last time for the foreseeable future to PTO v3. This upgrade will be done with the latest stable version of the community software we have been running for over 2 years, in addition to the latest versions of our web mail system, photo gallery, live chat, and even the next generation of the rec-room script for those who want to relax and play a few online games.
The person that I am contracting to do this upgrade has a substantial amount of experience coding this software and has been used by many other forum owners that I know with great reviews. We intend to get the job done completely this time and without errors at the end of the project time.
PTO v3 will have a number of style options for you all to choose from. You will have the ability to use a modified (to wide) version of PTO v2, a “stock” version of the forums like what you see running on PTO at the moment, and hopefully soon thereafter, the original PTO v1 graphics set. We may also add a few other “skins” in the near future.
All members will be able to select in their user control panel what “skin” they are using. Dialup members may want to use the stock skin that is running right now to maximize speed while people on higher speed connections may want to use a skin with more graphics. It is our hope to offer all of you something that works best for each individual situation.
The work on the site is anticipated to last approximately one week. During this period of time you may find the site unavailable at times, though we do not expect that to happen very often. Most of the work can be done while the site is up and running but please keep in mind that if there is an outage, it will be temporary.
After this work is completed you can expect YOUR PTO to be up and operational for many years to come, without any major upgrades.. What you see is what you get and there won’t be any more major changes, which we realize is just as much a pain for you as it is for us.
Thanks again for you understanding!
