View Full Version : I contacted a Newspaper about transfers and conditions in Newton ...they want a story
luisychris 04-21-2004, 05:44 PM wow I contacted a mexican newspaper and told them the conditions in Newton Texas and they are interested in a story...what do you guys think ???do you think I am opening a can of worms????do you think my man could be in any danger..he actually asked me to do this...but I am scared for him...
Littleoneinaz 04-21-2004, 05:47 PM Go for it girl.. my man isnt in there, but hey if there not treated right we have to do our part!!
faithfulforever 04-21-2004, 05:48 PM Maybe you could ask that they not identify you by name?
luisychris 04-21-2004, 05:53 PM I think if we I dont who will speak fo him..right now theres no drinking water in Newton they have to go to the restroom in a baggie ..come on that is inhuman and I am afraid for him I also told them that the state continues to ship are loved ones far away with out any notice and impossible for visits because we are all single parents now so how do they expect are children to see their fathers or any loved one for that matter...I hope it at least makes a dent in this problem ...I know things dont change over night ..but I at least found a way to desperse some anger to the system ...
faithfulforever 04-21-2004, 06:13 PM Chris, I think it is appauling that they are suffering under these conditions. (I read your other thread) I do know from living in the midwest that after strom storms (tornados and such) we have been without power for days. I would think they would get hospitals and prisons back online ASAP. I know some people don't care if they suffer, but even from the safety aspect, you would think they would want the power on right away.
Did you get any response from any other papers or new networks? It's not as if they can't look into this and find out some of what is going on.
Good luck.
faithfulforever 04-21-2004, 06:19 PM One more thought. There is a website
http://www.prweb.com
You can write your own press release and submit it. I think they review it and help you if needed. Anyway...it goes out a lot like a story on the news wire and can be picked up from printing/publication by numerous sources. One story I am familiar with has been read by houndreds and picked up for possible printing. I have done online searches based on the subject and have found it on legal pages and news pages such as yahoo. It might be a way to get the word out. Let me know if you need any help writing something.

arriana 04-21-2004, 10:26 PM I am curious why a Mexican newspaper? Will the US listen to it? I am not from around that part of the world but does the US listen to other countries really? I have a friend who lives in mexico and worked for the tdoc and they did not show much regard for Mexico.. have you tried talking to middle ground to get pointers? there is also Horizons in az that listens to issues, also I suggest contacting Prison legal news they can point you in the right direction I would think
good luck you are doign great tho
luisychris 04-22-2004, 10:06 AM well my husband is a Mexican National so here in Az is a paper for the public it is circulated through out Arizona plus I plan on sending the same letter to the Arizona republic....plus I like faithfulforevers suggestion I will possible do that also ..I am for sure bringing up the transfer issue ..plus if the Gov pays the state for each Inmate and the state sends them away ...the state pays the private prison to save money so wheres the money they save per Inmate ...where does it go obviously not on water .....or any of the other programs the claimed for the Oklahoma prison ..I know things will not change ..but it will bring our plight to light and maybe the ADC will have to take a second look on how they are runing things ...look what happened in Lewis ..right now is the time to bring this up when the public still has that situation on the mind ..so that they can see why they have these problems ...it all boils down to the way they are treating the inmates ..be it my man or anyone elses ..the fact is they are our fellow human beings and I would no like to see anyone suffer ..I know they are in Prison and have certian hardships ..but this is extreme and I belive the people need to know about it ..I am calling the reporter today I will let you all know what happens...cross your fingers
MyRainbow 04-22-2004, 10:29 AM Let us know how things turn out!!
We are all supporting you...
chintath 04-22-2004, 10:33 AM luisychris,
I emailed Channel 13 in Tucson and noticed it was read this morning. I would definitely contact AZ Republic. Some tips for PR (I do that for my nonprofit): they will want contact information--I went to the ADC website and discovered the contact info for Newton was wrong. Good luck. You are doing the right thing. Karen
luisychris 04-22-2004, 01:03 PM well the reporter called me and she she told me she is going to focus on the conditons but they mostly want to do it about the transfer part ..she gave me a date and time so that my guy and his fellow inmates can call collect to be interviewed ..I told her I wasnt sure about the name part but that she could use mine ...I am just going to ask Luis if he thinks its wise to use his name ..I am sure he will be willing
arriana 04-22-2004, 01:19 PM Thanks for explaining that .. I wish you luck in your quest...
faithful forever did make a great suggestion as well. I hope this brings some relief to your guy, My guy was talking of volunteering and my gut said noo.. so I told him that .. he did not soo I am thankful as this is nasty and needs to be fixed and now. we should all write dora and janet and remind them that reform needs to begin with ALL those in the adoc and not just those in state.
