View Full Version : bamvette~husband self surrendered to FCI Elkton
bamvette 04-21-2004, 07:58 AM I took my husband to self surrender yesterday at FCI Elkton. And it sure looked nothing like either of us expected! I didn't realize there would be so many fences and wires! Anyway could someone kindly answer just a few quick questions:
First - how do you correctly address mail to a prisoner? Is it the name of the facility, inmate name and number then address??
Second -does anyone know if he will be able to call home tonight (one day into his stay).
Third - is it true that I might be able to visit him as early as this weekend since I am his wife??
Lastly, does anyone have any info on what Elkton is like on the inside (I am worried about him). What visiting is like, hours, etc.
Thanks - well he was sentenced to 15 months, which is not much in comparison to what some people on this site face. But when it is your best friend, the father of your kids - it is eternity. I think the actual time equates to 455 days, then minus good time it would be 403 days(??) Would that be about correct??
Thanks for your support! Gosh this time is tough!

Correctly addressing mail to an inmate at FCI Elkton.
John Doe #12345-012
FCI Elkton
8730 Scroggs Road
PO Box 10
Lizbon, Ohio 44432
Usually....the phone list isn't processed right away. However, often times they will be given a phone call from their counselor/case worker within the first day or two.
Not sure on the visit.....
Not sure what it is like on the inside...
1 week...is a long time to be away from a loved one, no matter how short or long...it's the same pain we feel!
Glad you are with us here at PTO!

justvicki 04-25-2004, 09:48 PM Bamvette,
If you are listed in your husband's PSI you do not have to fill out a vistation form, which can slow down visiting by several weeks. If you know you are in his PSI, perhaps if you gave the facility a call they could tell you how quickly you can visit. If you are not in his PSI, then he will have to send you a visitation form to complete and return.
Good luck, and stay strong. We are all here for you.
redd263 05-16-2004, 07:51 PM My brother is there. He self-surrendered in October. I haven't actually been to visit, but my dad has made several visits. He said it is not too bad (all things considered). My brother writes that so far there has been no violence either from inmates or officials and that everybody just tries to get along. That is what we are taking some solace in, at least he is safe. I'm not sure where you are from, but my brother is from Mississippi, so he is over 1700 miles from home. Really hard for regular visits. He gets his phone time and so far everything has gone well. They are now telling him that they are going to take 275.00 every quarter from his money we send. Not sure on all that, we are contacting the attorney to see if this is right. It doesn't seem fair to base it on what they get in the beginning, since they need extra stuff in the beginning, but.... My dad said all that he has met when he has gone, have been very nice. He met one family visiting that even offered to let him stay with them when he comes. Motels etc.. are very expensive there (about 100.00 a night) Good luck and if I can help in any way, let me know. I know how scary it is from the outside. My brothers name is Sam Phillips if your hubby wants to look him up. My brothers biggest complaint is the boredom. especially during the winter months. At least he can get outside some now. They were supposed to be doing away with all tobacco products, so not sure how that is working out.
Taenas 05-17-2004, 07:46 PM Good Luck and Welcome!
Do you know what phone system and the number to call they use so I can make sure there is no block on my line. I called Elkton but they said they did not know.

No, sorry, every time my brother calls, it just shows up as "call", it doesn't show a number even on my cell phone bills. With them calling with calling cards rather than collect, not sure that you can block them. Good luck, we haven't had any trouble with my brother getting his phone time. According to him, it's not too bad, though he hasn't been anyplace else to compare it with. He hasn't had any problems that we are aware of.
kintml2u 06-04-2004, 08:40 PM Federal Prison Collect calls are handled by "Correctional Billing Services".
You can find their website at...
http://www.correctionalbillingservices.com/
They have an automated phone system that you can call and see if they have a block on you. The phone number is...1-800-844-6591
If they don't have a block on you, it would still be possible for your local phone company to have one on your line so it would be good to also check with them.

broker3460 06-14-2004, 08:53 PM My father in law was sent to Elkton on 05/25/04, we did not hear from him for a few days, my mother in law said visitation was different, my husband is also at FCI Morgantown, which has no fences or wires. My mother in law was in shock from the differences from Morgantown to Elkton, since we were told that Elkton was lower security than Morgantown.
