Hi. I have just entered a plea agreement to spend 33 months in FPC camp. As you are all aware, I am very nervous. I am 36-years old and a mother of a 7 year old son.(whom will stay with my mother) I live in Champaign, Illinois and am requesting to go to Pekin. I read all the postings on this forum and am so much more at ease. So I want to say thanks to all of you. Pretty much all of my questions were answered. I do have a few more:

1. What are the chances of getting into the prison your attorney/sentencing consulatant recommends? (such as Pekin) If not, how difficult is it to get a transfer?

2. Also, I need a few glasses of wine to sleep every night because of the anxiety- do you think this would constitute being admitted into an RDAP program?

3. Are there alot of children in the visiting room at Pekin?

4. Lastly, what does the typical menu consist of?

And any other information you think I need to know would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Kim

Kim, I just got home from Pekin a few months ago. I'll tell you what I know.

1) You should be assigned to Pekin or Greenville just because geographically that's your area. Unless they are over-overcrowded you should go there. If you do go to Pekin, PM me and I'll give you some specifics.

2) Get your "drinking problem" into your PSI. I knew girls there who tried it, but it didn't fly, especially because the RDAP is so full.

3) There are many, many children in the visiting room. On Sundays, women who are or have been enrolled in the Parenting class get to go with their families across the parking lot to the parenting classroom, so this takes out a lot of kids. There is a nice outside area to play in and lots of games. The ladies there have very well-behaved children.

4) The menu consists of a lot of starches, rice and potatoes mostly. Don't plan on seeing a chicken breast for a while. There are regular weekly menu items like hamburgers (hamburger monday, we called it) and fish on fridays. The ladies in the kitchen work hard to do the best with what they are given. Let's put it this way, I lost 100 pounds in 10 months. Seriously!

Good luck, I'll be thinking about you!

Hi Felonmom. Thanks for the information. Did you see any fights when you were there and did you see any women getting transferred to Medium Facilites and if so, what did they do? Thanks- I am just so full of questions.

Hey Kim!

I think I posted somewhere else about fights, but I'll tell you, there weren't any fights when I was there. Women were really paranoid about going to county and then being shipped to an FCI. The women who were shipped while I was there were sent because they got "shots" (disciplinary slips) for stealing, not showing up to work, getting caught at count time. It took a WHOLE lot for someone to get shipped. I mean, a LOT.

Most of the women were settling grudges by starting rumors about the person they were mad at, lying about them or trying to turn everyone against them. That mental torture that can be so much worse than physical abuse!!

That said, I survived it and sooner or later they're talking about someone else! I have friends in Pekin still, so PM me if you have any questions. :)
