Dear FPPP members:

Because of the ever increasing requests for public appearances, it became
readily apparent that Karen Bond's work load was far more than any one
person could handle, and so the decision was made for Judy Freyermuth and
Dr. Gary Erkfritz to be in charge of the demands of FPPP while Karen Bond
would be fulfilling the many demands of the media and so spreading the word
about life on the inside for a former prisoner. Those of us left behind wish
her the utmost luck as she continues in her dream of improving the lot of
our 176,000 federal prisoners. Karen has acknowledged that she is turning
over the Project to very capable hands and assumes that the influence of the
Project will grow and grow until the sentencing reform problems have been
solved.

"There is so much that needs our attention: the cries for help from the
prisoners and their families and friends, the volunteers to assist in a
variety of ways, the push for LERA to find sponsors and supporters, the
advancement of HR 4036 which would reinstate parole for federal prisoners,
and the bill that calls for the early release for elderly prisoners are all
calling for our attention. One person could not do all of that work and so
Gary and I will shepard the work of so many. We're already in the planning
stages for another all-out letter writing campaign to the Senators and
Representatives in Congress. We'll need all the help we can get. We want to
recognize the unselfish work of Karen Bond and truly wish her the very
best," said Ms. Judy Feyermuth. "We all thank Ms. Bond for all her hard
work. She has left us with an honorable legacy - The Federal Prison Policy
Project."

Remember, she said she was not getting paid for interviews.

Personally, I am very happy to hear this news.. FPPP has a lot of potential, and with legit and caring people at the helm, it can do great things..

What was that song from the Wizard of Oz?? I'm struggling here for words because that old adage (in my mother's voice) keeps running through my mind - "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." But I will ignore that. I am very glad for FPPP that the honorable in the group came to discover the truth about who should lead them. I hope now that FPPP can act kindly toward FedCURE and all can work together to accomplish some positive changes for federal prisoners. I just hope that FPPP has notified their bank and Paypal of the change of leadership and nailed down any office equipment, etc. Clearly someone in FPPP is very talented in creating "spin." That's not a criticism. It's a good way to go forward and go forward we must. I wish FPPP all the best. Zelda

I'll jump in here too! Glad to see that Karen will not be part of FPPP no longer.

With Karen Bond, it seemed FPPP wasn't totally willing to work with all other groups. I come to believe it was Karen, that simply wanted to be in the "spot light" and since she has traveled there now....I guess she has found her true calling! :clap:

So..let's hope for a bigger and brighter future with FPPP! One that will include being able to work with all groups....for the same reason! Not for personal growth, but for the better of all federal prisoners! :grouphug:

Do a search for "Karen Bond" here on PTO and I think it will become more clear. :thumbsup:

The only thing I will say is maybe now the true problems will be addressed in the media by FPPP and poor victim Karen's hard life in a prison camp will not be highlighted. I have not been here for a few days but this is definately good news to come back too.

May 9 will be Mother's Day, and so FPPP is asking all of our members
to send Mother's Day card and a letter to their members of Congress.
Perhaps you would like to invite your members to join us in this
campaign as we ask senators and representatives to support
legislation that will eliminate mandatory minimum sentencing, or will
increase "good time" for qualifying prisoners, or will reinstate
parole for federal prisoners. Four sample letters that those
participating in the campaign might use as they compose their
messages. Remember: we are asking that Mother's Day cards be sent with
the letters to the members of Congress.

The Federal Prison Policy Project welcomes any and all advocates of
sentencing reform to involve themselves in one more effort to
influence Congressmen/women to rectify the errors of the past. We
also ask to be informed of your group's future plans so that we can
invite our members to work with your organization to cause the
justice system more just.
