A MAN accused of gunning down a Melbourne mother in her driveway last week is being monitored at an assessment prison after being judged a self-harm risk.
Pisey Prasoeur, 22, of Chadstone, was returned to the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) after appearing briefly in the magistrates court today charged with the murder of 33-year-old Aneta Pochopien.
Mrs Pochopien was shot as she sat in her car outside her home in Carramar Street, Chadstone about 5.30am last Wednesday, an hour after finishing night shift at the nearby Silcraft car components factory.
Prasoeur, a security guard, was arrested at the Box Hill Hospital psychiatric unit on Friday night.
In a brief hearing today, Prasoeur's lawyer Bernie Balmer said his client was prescribed the anti-depressant drug Zoloft before being charged.
Magistrate Jelena Popovic said a letter from Prasoeur's doctor showed he had been prescribed several other medications.
Finding he had a psychiatric condition and was "at risk of self harm", she ordered he be monitored at MAP.
Prosecutor Michael Jones asked for a 12-week extension before the next court date to give police time to interview many of the 500 Silcraft employees and allow ballistic and DNA testing.pePolice found the murder weapon nine blocks from the crime scene on Friday night.
Outside the court, Mr Balmer said it was too early in the case to "even contemplate where it's all going yet" when asked about Prasoeur's mental health.
"You know he was apprehended in a psychiatric institution so they need to keep a good eye on him," he said.
Prasoeur sat impassively through the hearing dressed in jeans and a grey polo shirt.
He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded in custody until August 20.
Mrs Pochopien, who moved to Australia with her husband a decade ago and has a 10-year-old son, will be buried in her home town of Krakow, Poland.
A memorial service will be held at St Ignatius Catholic Church in Richmond on Wednesday.
