There are 1734 inmates where my husband is at. It was built for 900. I'm sure there are places that are more overcrowded. I hope I don't get blasted for saying this, but maybe this is a good thing in the long run. With the overcrowding, cutting staff, new prisons that can't open, no money in the budget.......maybe this will help push the parole bill.

I have watched the weekly population reports for a long time. I try to update my site with the report from where my Sweetie's at...one week it will be in the high 1600's then it'll go up to over 1700...and back down again...it's like a roller coaster...up and down...but they are overcrowded too.

Are they letting anyone come home? Or are they taking in more than they let go?

Yes, people are released on a daily basis, but, unfortunately as you can see, the weekly population continues to rise. For every one that is released one plus is taken in.

Once agin...it went down!

For some reason...I thought we already had this one! Here it is 2 weeks later and they have yet to update this number! Wonder if it's reached the peak...and rolled over the 180,000 mark! Considering the amount of members we have leaving us this week...it might just be there!

Or...would that number reflect those who may have been moved out of federal custody, under someone elses custody, over the hurricanes?

MiamiChica22

Diane, the lower figures "probably" have nothing to do with the hurricane-displaced inmates as they were moved to other federal correctional facilities, from what I have heard. Maybe this is the start of a downward trend. But I doubt it, there seems to be a lot of PTO folks waiting to self-surrender. We'll see. Thanks for keeping up on these numbers every week.

My husband is at FMC Lexington, and he said that the numbers are wrong--it's actually higher! I'm wondering if they aren't counting the "studies," plus those that are still waiting for trial. He said the numbers are always off by about 200.
