On July 28th of this year I am suppossed to pick up my husband at FCI Cumberland, MD., and transport him to a halfway house in Winchester , VA., which is about an hour from our home. Come to find out it is not a halfway house it is a county jail with a work release program, and Fed inmates can apply for home monitoring after a month, can apply for furloughs to home, and are not allowed to smoke, not allowed to go outside, or share a meal with his daughter and I. We are also going to have to go back to visiting through a glass like the county jail here. This seems to be against all the things they say about trying to reunite families, and giving trust in the halfway houses, and giving fathers a place with more freedom to see their children. I am very upset and so is he. Can anyone else tell me if they have been through this too. I thought halfway house meant less restrictive, and more family time. But this is contrary to that, and more restrictive than the Fed Prison he's at now. This is crazy, and its upsetting. :argh :smash: :ha: :pissed: :fb: undefined

The Bureau contract with many types of facilities for Community Corrections. He will still be alklowed to get a job, pay subsistence and have weekend passes (having done both of the first two).

Thanks for the info, also, they tell us if his job where we live which is only an hour from the halfway whatever, will take him back , and they will, he can come home on home monitoring, and go to his regular job possibly. Have you heard of this, and is it common. Thanks, Lisa going crazy!!!!!

Usually AFTER he has a job and gets a paycheck - and then pays the 25% subsistence - he will get weekend passes. After that, home confinement is the norm for the last 50%. However, if the total CCC stay is not very long, there may not be enough time for the paperwork.

Get as much paperwork done now as you can and you can speed things up..my hubby only spent a total of 8 days in the CCC, (taking out the weekend passes)

You will need to provide a copy of his driver's license, proof of insurance (for him to drive to work)etc...call the CCC and ask for his case manager there and that person should be able to tell you all that is needed. Because all of my hubby's stuff was done ahead of time and he started work the first Monday after release, he was out in record time.
