I've often wondered about that myself. I think I'll start digging around to see what kind of answers I can come up with.

Yes, My hubby talks about this all the time.

He says, "Baby, the country is going to hell in a handbasket, haven't you seen the news? We are broke."

Then he says one of the first they will have to do is free some prisoners......

The only thing I could find out was that in case of a major disater or something like the stand the low level guys will be released*thats what I heard anyway* the upper levels guys I have no clue, but I"m thinking its a fend for yourself type thing then :(...Hopefully someone will come along with something more helpful

yeah i cant find anywhere an actual law that was ever made stating they would be executed if martial law ever came into play... i hope it never happens but its something that in today's world could happen i wish i knew where to find more info on this... or if a global power grid failure was to happen what is the back up systems for prisons... our loved ones are in there we should have a right to know...?

Wow, and I thought I stressed about some crazy stuff! I haven't a clue, but researching it will certainly be better for my head than watching Lockdown. Again.

Worry about it when it happens, till then dont be worrying about things that might not happen.

Well I read an article today that the guys in Rikers NY are being left behind locked in their cells to fend for themselves during the storm...so special prayers to them during this.

I know on't worry but lol I'm a prepper so I like to know all the possibilities of what might happen so I can prepare for them.

I was discussing this again with hubby....

He says that if our government collapses, then the prison officials are suppose to kill the inmates...

I said "So, the prison employees know that they are not getting anymore paychecks and they are going to walk in there firing away, killing all the inmates...with no pay...?"

He said "Hell, there are people that work here that would kill us for free everyday of the week...."

Then he said the newer prisons, how they are divided into pods...he says each pod can be sealed off and the pods are equipped with gas....like a gas chamber...

Hmmm....

Wonder if all he says is true?

They most likely have generators so they will be better off than the general public. The workers still have to report, so they aren't going into a dangerous situation. The inmates may be locked in, but the buildings will most likely be operational which is more than some on the outside will get.

The important question is what will happens to inmates when aliens invade earth. Will they be offered up first for probing purposes? Or how about during the rapture?

I mean really...come on people. There are like 2 MILLION people in US prisons. They gonna kill all of them in a nationwide power outage or if the country collapses?

I happen to enjoy this thread. I find it interesting.

Sorry, if some of you wanna devalue our interest in the question.

I guess that would be your prerogative.

Martial law is just that-so if thats what to be done, it will. You're not going to stop it. You'll probably be killed for resistance. Unless you have a lot of money to bribe someone, it'll be what it is.

Tell that to the inmates that were left behind, during katrina when the co's fled, once things got dangerous and they were locked in their cells with water and sewer up to their chest.
Rikers is in the area that is saying mandatory evacuations, anyone left or choosing to stay behind, should be prepare to fend for them selves for atleast 3 days bc not even 911 will be responding to calls.

But hopefully by the time Irene reaches NY it won't be that bad.

I got to talk to my hubby today about this and he said well baby pray if something happens I'm either in the kitchen or yard b/c if I'm locked in my cell I'm fucked. Most the CO's here would just leave us or shot us.

And oddly enough I asked one of the more friendly ones, what happens here if there is a major natural disater, our area had an earthquake the first one in recent memory so I was like what if a major earth quake happens or something. She said that they couldn't talk about specifics but they couldn't guarantee anyones safety. Nice huh?

Not guaranteeing safety is very different than "seal them in and gas them all" or "shoot them all in their cells." Leaving them locked into their cells to die is another matter entirely and much more likely. Martial law is also different than natural disaster- martial law by definition has a power structure, rules, and people to enforce them. The rules now aren't going to matter, it will all be up to the new rulers. I do wonder at times about national or worldwide power failure, but mostly when I'm in a public restroom and the toilets, sinks, and paper towels are all automatic and require electricity to work. But the newer prisons... Is there a way to override the electronic locks?

Uhm yea i regret coming into this topic. You've gotta be kidding me. Was this topic started with the hurricane coming in mind or..? I seriously will not let myself believe men in a county jail, even state for that matter, would be left for dead...under any circumstances.

I wouldn't either, but did you see hisoneandonly's post above about Katrina? A lot of unthinkable and unbelievable things happened during Katrina.

Dont even get me started. There are FEMA camps all over the country fenced in to contain Americans. Don't even think we are far off from mass imprisonment. It can happen in a heartbeat. Slowly our liberty is being taken away. Just google it to see. Yes they will leave the men to drown in prison and jail. Just have to look back on Katrina to see that. They were abandoned and left behind. Bloomburg just stated that Rikers will not be evacuated and it's in the mandatory evac zone. There are people being held there who have not even been charged with a crime. To think they care about prisoners youre delusional ! All prisons have backup power and food and water for 10 days. Do you think guards will stay to make sure the men are fed and safe. Not happening !

BTW, I personally hear martial law coming into effect, or even serious mummers, I'm heading to the hills...but then again most people think I"m crazy, I like to say I'm prepared.

This really all makes you think. How they left behind inmates due to Katrina pretty scary.
