Here in NH, it seems you can be denied visitation for a misdemeanor. I always thought it was only for felonies, yet my mother was just denied based on a criminal history. I called the Unit Manager (whom I never got a reply from) to et things sorted out. I ended up talking to a cop there, telling him how my mother had never been arrested. Now keep in mind, my mother is 61 years old and sweet as pie. Well, to my surprise, my mother informed me after that she HAD been arrested...for shoplifting 2 packs of smokes 10 years ago! She was never fined and was told after 1 year she could have it removed. And now here we are, 10 years later, and she can't even visit my husband because of a lousy 2 packs of cigarettes!!!!!! So I was just wondering how other places are set up...if they're just looking at felonies or any charge at all?

Wow.. Jasmine.. They sound really petty up there!
I can speak for the Fed's in Texas.. At least at F.C.I. Beaumont.. Unless it is a felony most people don't have any trouble getting into visitation.. It also has a lot to do with what the criminal record is composed of. Certain charges definitely throw up the red flag. Such as trafficing, solicitation & other charges that may have a direct bearing in a full-contact visitation room.
Most county jails down here don't do background checks.. What they will do is a warrant check to see if they can add you to their collection..

I'm starting to think maybe they are just screwing with us in particular. I haven't done any real checking yet. I plan on calling the warden on Monday...seeing as it was one of the majors who denied it...one that hates Kenny. Some of the people that visit there I have known for years...and I KNOW have records. Besides that, my mother used to be clergy there! And now that I think about it, a friend of mine was charged with DWI a few years ago, and she was able to visit...she is now a guard. Well, I think Mr. Sanfilipo is getting one hell of a call...because I am really pissed now!!!

IN WYOMING I WAS ALLOWED TO VISIT AND GO IN FOR BIBLE STUDY. I WAS AN INMATE THERE. THEY DID THE USUAL BACKROUND CHECK.
