My wife is doing time at Carswell in Texas. Currently, she is in the SHU for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. As a rookie to the system, she was checked into a room where one of the inmates had hidden a cell phone. Obviously, this was not something she wanted to know about or use. The offender was caught with the phone and the whole room was thrown into the SHU. Today, 78 days later, she's facing a transfer to another prison somewhere in the US as further punishment. During her hearing, along with the others, she was found guilty for not turning the offender in. We've written an appeal. All to no avail. The officer presiding over the hearing was not a true DHO. In fact, she was an officer of Carswell. This is in direct violation of the rules of the hearing. Still, the hearing verdict stands. What gives, here? In their eyes, she was guilty before the hearing. Now, she's being shuttled somewhere else without a valid reason.
Can anyone explain this to me? She's spending her time in the SHU in a 12 X 9 cell with 3 other women. She gets blood-stained pajamas and a uniform that maybe or maybe not fits her. I realize she IS in prison. Isn't this a little radical though?
Thanks for letting me rant.
