Hi Everyone!!

As the new Forum Leader, I am trying to learn the in's and out's of the Oregon Prison System. I know tons about WA, but a novice with Oregon.

In WA, all (male) inmates start their journey at ONE facility, for classification, etc., then are transfered to another facility to complete their sentence.

I tried to figure it out by reading and reading and reading all the information on the Oregon DOC web site. Just got more confused!!! I found the web site difficult to navigate, but full of information!!!

What is the Classification and Tranfer Unit (CTU)? Is that just the overseeing facilitator of the program? What is the "flow" though the Oregon system?

Any information will be a huge help!!! Thank you.

Hi,
I don't know about "ctu" but all inmates in Oregon Go to Coffee Creek for intake/processing. Men are then sent to the "appropriate facility, all women stay at C.C.C.F. As for ODOC's website, I find it to have very little information, mostly a bunch of "BS" for public consumption. Alot of the info is outdated.

Yeah... as someone who has spent too many years associated with the WA DOC, I can spot PR information when I see it!!

But as someone trying to take a crash course in the OR system, it helps. I didn't even know how many facilities there were in OR. From that view point, there is alot of facility information.

As to what is 'outdated', I guess I will have to rely on the members to fill me in!!

Thanks for the response!!

All felony offenders serving more than 12 months are transported to the Intake Center, which is co-housed with Coffee Creek Women's Correctional Institution. There, their files and sentences/detainers are reviewed, they do some educational and psychological testing and then are assigned to an institution. All women serve their time at Coffee Creek. The male offenders go elsewhere. There are different types of programs at various institutions for men, so they are sent according to their security classification and program needs (and most likely where there is a bed space). They may be moved around as they go through their sentence, based on the same factors. All Oregon inmates have to be released to the county where their sentence originated unless they can show they have family or job elsewhere or other special circumstance. Hope this helps. Zelda

Thank you Zelda!!

Just trying to learn the Oregon system! I am sure I will have tons of questions!!!

I moved down to Portland from Seattle a couple of years ago and still find things that are just a bit different! Not, wrong, just different.

Like road signs!! Oregon has "High Water" signs. Had no idea what that meant!! In WA, the signs are: "Watch Out for Water." Same thing, different words!!
