JACKSON, Miss. - The Mississippi Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal from a McComb security guard sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a man outside a nightclub in 1999.
The state Court of Appeals upheld the conviction last year. The justices on Thursday denied William Albert Steele's request to review the case.
Steele was convicted of murder in Pike County in the shooting death of Larry Williams, 24. He also was sentenced to five years for shooting into an occupied vehicle. The two sentences were to run concurrently.
Prosecutors said Steele fired the fatal shot into a car that killed Williams the night of Oct. 11, 1999, at Club Paradise in western Pike County.
Authorities said Williams died from a gunshot wound in the head. His body was found by the side of a highway.
