I don't know how familiar any of you are with the November Coalition. The are a great orginization who are always fighting for the rights of inmates and working to fight the injustice of the war on drugs. They have an online petition for the return of federal parole. The only way change can happen is if we get involved!!
Here is the link to the online petition:

There is also a hard copy of the petition that you can download in PDF form so that people without internet access can sign it also. I am really supporting this bill, H.R. 3072! I have written the Rep. of my state urging him to cosponsor it. Since then the bill has gotten 2 cosponsors but all are Democrats and if we don't get some Republicans backing this it may very well fail again! A lot of people I have tried to get to sign the petition say why should they, these guys deserve to be in jail if they are going to be drug dealers, transporters...etc. But what they don't understand is that I don't see anyone pushing for the state prisons to give harder sentences to violent offenders. Yes, what my man did was wrong but giving him an 8 yr. sentence for driving someone else's vehicle to another state for him and getting charged with possession with intent to distribute isn't right when the owner of the vehicle was picked up at the same time following in a rental vehicle and he got off without serving any time or anything. Yet the MM for rape is 2 yrs. then they get parole and most won't serve more than a year!

Everyone that can go to www.house.gov (http://www.house.gov) and find your rep. for your state and email them as many times as you can to reinstate the federal parole. The Bill is HR 3072 we need them to co sponsor the bill. So everyone could send as many emails to there rep. asking them to co sponsor this bill it would help in trying to get this passed. And our love ones in federal prison would now have a chance for parole the same way state prison has

Just signed and happy to do it. Also, that site is awesome, after signing the petition I went on to read some articles. I was shocked by the story about inmates in Louisiana who probably drowned.

Hey everyone, it's important of course to sign the petition, but I just spoke with a friend of mine who works for a rep in D.C. He encourage me to not only sign the petition but email your rep as well! Emailing your rep directly is, as he put it, "the MOST effective way to voice your opinion regarding the matter." My rep is a republican and the person who introduced the bill is supposed to be extremely liberal so I am doubtful that I can change my reps viewpoints on the matter but I tried anyways! Doesn't hurt to try, so get on this page and email your rep! www.house.gov (http://www.house.gov)

The bill HR 3072 is currently in front of the Judiciary Committee. Basically, the committee can prevent this bill from ever reaching the House Floor by not pushing it through in a timely manner. The bill will essentially "die out" if the committee decides to not push the bill through for a vote. You can help! Email the Judiciary Committee. Go to this link and encourage them to push the bill through so that the members of the House can vote on this bill. http://judiciary.house.gov/Contact.aspx Then, email your rep so that he/she knows how you would like them to vote. It all sounds like a longshot, but nothing gets done without a little work and risk! These people are supposed to be representing us....let's make them do their job!
Our work can help in pushing this bill through and reinstating parole within the Federal system.
