-s- Hi all I am in the uk...well i am looking for some info.

basically over the years i have supported 3 miscarriages of justice....keef mann....m253....and am currently suporting the hanratty campaign...

and am glad to say the first 2 were resolved...convictions in the M253 case quashed...keef mann had his sentence reduced....economic sabotage......

anyway....the problem is this.....although i have been involved i have never actually spear headed a campaign.

Now....as of last wednesday...a friend of mine was sentenced to life imprisonment...to serve atleast 14 years before an option of parole can be gained.

now the sentence was for murder...3 people have been sentenced for this crime....now the friend has swore he didn't take part in the action...he admits assault...but a weapon was used....and the victim died of a wound to the thigh...loss of blood.

now the problem is because the fight happened because of an earlier assault on my friend by the victim and his friends....he has been told he has no chance of being proved innocent......the attack on him was in his own house....he was assaulted with a wrench and knife....there was a long running fued between my friend and the victim.

now my friend is a young guy just turned 22...and i by no means am saying the victim deserved to die......but i find the term murder...a lil off....surely manslaughter....i know they took the weapon....but the fatal wound was one that was not inflicted to kill....

the problem i have is this..my friend says he never touched the weapon he told his brief who did it....but to no avail.....but i believe the sentence to be way too high.....i don't mind getting life for life as such...but why does he get 14 years and so many others who kill or abuse..get lesser sentences....provocation should have been taken into account.....and i know of one case where a man got off with murder due to provocation..by his wife...even though he had to leave the room and get the weapon.....which to me isn't provocation...and strangulation isn't a normal form of provocation homacide....anyway what i am asking is...can some send me an address or mail addy for a group i can help from....

Hi diane,
Try to post it in the legal section maybe someone can help you there and they might have some answers for you

The duplicate post made of this in Legal has been moved to Activism.

Question there about whether your search is about your friend's case only or if you are looking for fellow activists on a particular continent for another issue.

Please reply to this post or the other. They can be merged when you let us know where you are headed.

Thank you.
