Most of us up here thought something was shady about this deal. I don't trust GEO or any private prisons for that matter.

Everybody who thinks ALL of Geo's prison deals with the state of Florida are questionable, raise your hand...

That whole relationship just REEKS of corruption.

I could not agree with you more.. and to think, all of region 4 will be private..

I am totally opposed to the privatization of the prison system.

I am very clearly opposed to privitation as well and I am quite particularly opposed to many things at Blackwater - my Mike is currently there and there are a few good things, the a/c and the food is overall better, but everything else is a mess and they clearly play by their own rules.

What do you think will come of this as per the article above? It sounds like they are just investigating how GEO got the contract in the first place?

Not sure. But considering Lord VoldeScott wants to privatize the whole state the outcome could change that.

I can't get to the link??? it's giving me a 404 error

Is this the article???????? I believe this group is part of GEO, but not this. If you get bored someday, chase GEO down an get a look at everything they are involved in, and keep in mine that in 1997 they were nothing.

Firm once known as Blackwater faces another suit By MATTHEW BARAKAT Associated Press
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A current worker and a former employee of
the security contractor previously known as Blackwater have filed a
whistleblower suit against the company in federal court, the second
such suit filed against the firm.
The lawsuit alleges Blackwater, now known as Xe (ZEE),
overbilled the government for work protecting State Department
employees in Iraq and Afghanistan. Part of the alleged fraud
included billing for the services of certified snipers who were not
properly qualified.
The case was filed under seal in April but a judge in Alexandria
unsealed it Thursday. The case was filed under a federal law that
allows plaintiffs to keep part of any money awarded to the
government for the alleged fraud.
A similar case is scheduled to go to trial this month. A company
spokesman declined comment Thursday.

Developer and Operator: The GEO Group,Boca Raton, Fla.
Contractor: White Construction Co.,Ridgeland, Miss.

this is old info, but something we should prob keep in the back of our minds.

I have done several searches for the article. It was either removed or in the archives.

Yes they are part of GEO.

Blackwater (the company who provided security in Iraq and Afghanistan) is a different company than GEO who runs the Blackwater prison in Milton Florida. The prison in Milton is named after the Blackwater RIVER that runs through the town. The two companies are not related (outside of both companies holding government contracts to perform work in different industries).

Correct Pinkkrose. However, Geo Group is formerly Wackenhut and they have done some pretty crappy things.

I'm not sure why people keep confusing the prison with the military contractor. The Blackwater River is the reason they named the prison what they did. Afterall, Santa Rosa CI was already taken
