Can an inmate call a cell phone number or do they have a way of knowing it is a cell phone?

I have a number of guys calling a cell phone in the feds. I don't think they care since they can record it just as easy. The only thing different is that they can only call prepaid.

The reason I ask, with cell phone companies you can change the home range and get a local telephone number from the prison. If you pay for a larger roaming region you should be able to avoid a lot of the costs. I am going to do this and see if it works. I go in later this month.

The question about cell phones. i Had my boyfriend useing my cell number and my house number . Then for whatever reason the removed my cell number . Frank asked why. They told him cell phones are not permitted. They new it cause frank asked where i was . I said his moms. So if it gets on there as long as it is not talked about it may work

BMAN -- Concerning your question about cell phones.

If the prison allows pre-paid direct dial calls then the prisoner could call your cell phone.

However, most prisons make the prisoner call collect and cell phones will not accept collect billing. So it will not work if they have to call you collect.

There is another solution. Tele-Net can send the collect calls to your cell phone and they may even save you money on the calls too. Look for their banner on PTO.
